The last time I posted a chart "Naive" was No.1 for The Kooks, knocking off Editors' "All Sparks" - this week however (13 weeks later), Muse hold on to No.1 for a record fourth straight week. In doing so they are only the second act to achieve four weeks on top (shared with Arctic Monkeys' "When The Sun Goes Down"), and are the first to do it consecutively. A lot of records were indeed set this week, with The Automatic's "Monster" finishing as runner-up for the fourth straight week - also a record, and The Feeling's "Fill My Little World" set an eight week YTD total only bettered by the aforementioned Arctic Monkeys track.
Elsewhere on the chart, Razorlight's comeback track "In The Morning" climbs to No.3, The Kooks follow-up to my No.1 hit Naive, "She Moves In Her Own Way" stalls at No.4 for a second week. The Fratellis move up to No.7 with "Henrietta" and Bob Sinclar becomes the second dance song inside the top ten this week with "World Hold On".
The first dance song in the top ten this week, and the highest new entry honour goes to Rogue Traders and their fantastic tune "Voodoo Child", and it is expected to make further progress in the following weeks. Dirty Pretty Things follow up No.3 hit "Bang Bang You're Dead" with a slightly disappointing debut for their new track "Deadwood". The Rifles new track "She's Got Standards" has been very well recieved on all fronts and becomes their highest peaking song for me, already beating the No.32 peak of "Repeated Offender". Rooster's comeback single "Home" is disappointing compared to their older stuff, and gets a slightly lowly debut at No.32. It's almost dance overload this week as another song debuts at No.38, this time for Justice vs. Simian! Completing the new songs front, there is a climber into the top 50 this week from Scottish-Italian singer Paolo Nutini and his song "Last Request". He climbs to No.49 this week.
Possible chart entries next week:
Franz Ferdinand - Eleanor Put Your Boots On
Gnarls Barkley - Smiley Faces
James Dean Bradfield - That's No Way To Tell A Lie
James Morrison - You Give Me Something
McFly - Please Please
Red Hot Chili Peppers - Tell Me Baby
Rihanna - Unfaithful
Sean Paul - Never Gonna Be The Same
The Flaming Lips - The W.A.N.D.
There are a lot of top names set to enter the chart next week, with Gnarls Barkley, Franz Ferdinand and Rihanna especially recieving the most attention. Expect those to debut inside the top twenty at least. Red Hot Chili Peppers' new song "Tell Me Baby" is starting to grow on me finally, but will it be enough to avoid a shock entry outside the top twenty? At the top end of the chart Muse look unbeatable at the moment, but Razorlight and Rogue Traders are progressing rapidly, and there should be a very high new entry for Gnarls Barkley "Smiley Faces" Who'll be on top? Find out next week!
