022 Jim Noir "Key Of C" (UK Chart Positon - Not top 200 ) I want to be in the key of C, it's easier to play it....The man with the bowler hat's second appearence. This is the second best song off a very impressive debut album, only "Turn Your Frown Into A Smile" is better, imo. 021 Rihanna "SOS (Rescue Me)" (UK Chart Position - 02) You got me stressing, incessantly pressing the issue, 'cause every moment gone you know I miss you...Along with Beyoncé she's always been an artist I've detested. The whole of her first album was a great big heap of sh*te and so was the second. Apart from this. This is marvellous although it did take me until the summer to actually like it. A real grower. The sample works so incredibly well and unlike Beware Of The Dog, doesn't seem to rely on it so much. It's such a shame she can't do more songs like this. Same goes for all R'n'B "divas"; LESS WARBLING BALLADS AND MORE UPTEMPO SONGS!!!

020 Justice vs. Simian "We Are Your Friends" (UK Chart Position - 20) You'll never be alone again, well come onAn amazing remix by Justice of Simian's "Never Be Alone". The perfect combination of Indie and Dance. It took me a while to get into it but when I did I've loved it ever since. 019 Primal Scream "Country Girl"Crazy women mess your head up, wake up drunk and beaten in some strange bed...When I first heard this song I thought it would be very close to being my single of the year, if not my number one. So number 19 may seem poor, but when considering the other two I thought the same about were "Valerie" and "America" it's quite good as neither of those feature as I realised after a few listens they're both utter sh*te! I have gone off this a bit but it's still an amazing indie-pop song!

018 TV On The Radio "Wolf Like Me" (UK Chart Position - 89) We could jet in a stolen car but i bet we wouldnt get too far...I'm not entirely sure how I discovered this song but it's rather good. It spent 3 weeks at the top of my chart in September/October by default as there wasn't much else out at the time. It took a while to climb to the top and was released towards the beginning of August. I doubt many have heard it but you should check it out. 017 Metric "Monster Hospital" (UK Chart Position - 55) You hold my arms down, I've been bad. I've been bad, I've been bad.....Metric are never really a band I've bothered with. But this song is superb. Everything else I've heard by them has been average at best but like many bands, they do have one really good song. My 5th best single of the year to be sung by a female.

016 The Flaming Lips "Yeah Yeah Yeah Song" (UK Chart Position - 16) If you could make everybody poor just so you could be rich, would you do it?One of two songs in my top 20 that's position in my end of year chart is exactly the same as the position it reached in the UK Singles Chart. This song is insanely catchy and although they certainly have better songs this is still fabulous. I never bothered with the album but maybe I should. "Yoshimi..." is an excellent album. 015 Islands "Rough Gem" (UK Chart Position - 195) Dig deep but don't dig too deep. When it's late you'll see the hole is empty and oh so deadly....A band I doubt many people know consisting of (currently) 6 members, two of which are from Canadian band The Unicorns, who I also doubt many people know  It's a fantastic song which should've been a much bigger hit, a good 185 places higher.... This is what's good about indie, not most of the mainstream indie influenced pop which people call indie. The whistling noises in here are marvellous and it is quite random. Their album "Return To The Sea" is also pretty good if the six songs I have off it are anything to go by.

014 Snow Patrol ft Martha Wainwright "Set The Fire To The Third Bar" (UK Chart Position - 18) I lay down on the cold ground, I pray that something picks me up and sets me down in your warm heart...When I first heard the album I was incredibly underwhelmed. I'd only heard the lead single which was completely average and that's alll the album seemed to be; average. Apart from one song, this. It's an incredibly haunting song which is performed fantastically by both Gary and Martha. I know "Chasing Cars" is many peoples favourite and it is a good song but from the album only "You Could Be Happy" comes anywhere near close to this for me. 013 Belle & Sebastian "Funny Little Frog" (UK Chart Position - 13) I am the jester in the ancient court and you're the funny little frog in my thro-at...Released way back in January this song became the bands highest charting single ever. And rightly so as it's one of the best, if not the best. I can't say they'd previously been a band I'd liked that much apart from the odd song here and there but when I first heard this I really liked it and made sure I caught the DJ saying who it was. I was pleasantly surprised. I downloaded the album soon after and that's pretty excellent as well. It will be featuring in my top albums of the year!

012 Bodyrox ft Luciana "Yeah Yeah" (UK Chart Position - 02) More then just a new craze, I'll show you who's rock'n'roll...A superb piece of electro, infact it's the highest placed dance single of the year... I'd heard the instrumental before which was also pretty good but then I heard the vocal version and it takes the song to a whole new level. I do think this year has been pretty poor for dance music and there's not been that much that I've liked, certainly not chart dance anyway, but this was a refreshing change and has recently spent 3 weeks at the top of my personal chart. This is similar in ways to "Exceeder" by Mason which is also pretty good. However, for me, that fails to improve on the instrumental when Princess Superstar's vocal is added. Oh, and Luciana can teach me a thing or two any time she wants! 011 Air Traffic "Never Even Told Me Her Name" (UK Chart Position - An Ep - Chart Ineligible) So I slip away on a stormy night, I heard you on the radio - you were screaming out....A very exciting band for the future. I've heard four or five tracks of theirs now and all have been fantastic, though none quite match this; the lead song off their recent EP. I'm hoping that they'll be pretty big next year. Their recent performance on Later....With Jools Holland was excellent and they're the type of band that can appeal to quite a lot of people with their piano-led indie.

010 The Aliens "The Happy Song" (UK Chart Position - 81) I'm happy every day as I walk around my life, I'm happy every day even though I'm stuck in Fife...So, into the top 10 then. And for the first time ever every song in my top 10 made number one in my personal chart so it shouldn't be too hard to guess it. We start with this, released in September it's the second most recent song in the top 10. The Aliens consist mainly of former members of The Beta Band. It's an incredibly uplifiting song and if it doesn't make you happy you're a miserable old sod. 009 Franz Ferdinand "The Fallen" (UK Chart Position - 14) In my blood I feel the bubbles burst, there was a flash of fist, an eyebrow burst...Even though their second album was released last year the best song off it was saved until this year. It's not their best song (I prefer both "Darts Of Pleasure" and of course "Take Me Out") but it is the best song off the second album. I still think it should've been the lead single as "Do You Want To?" was poor and as a result the (much better) second album sold a lot less than their debut. I hope that next year brings a third album!

008 The Shortwave Set "Repeat To Fade" (UK Chart Position - Not top 200 ) It's coming round again, another strange parade that just repeats to fade...The most obscure song in the top yet the most lovely. The trio are made up of Andrew Pettitt, David Farell and lead vocalist Ulrika Bjorsne. I hadn't heard anything by them other than this until last month when I heard what's hopefully their next single which samples Madness on XFM. It was a lot different to this and also rather good. I reccommend this to anyone who likes a female voice and/or singer-songwriter types! 007 Damien Rice "9 Crimes" (UK Chart Positon - 29) Leave me out with the waste, this is not what I do. It's the wrong kind of place to be cheating on you...By far his best ever song. I was never really a fan of any of the singles on his first album but "Unplayed Piano" changed my opinion on him as I loved that. His WarChild song "Cross-Eyed Bear" was also good. But this is in a completely different league. It's incredibly haunting and I could listen to it for hours on end. Lisa Hannigan makes the song for me though, rather than Damien - the first verse is incredible. I don't know whether to get his album or not as I'm not particularly a fan but I may get it when it's cheap(er). I suspect, like Royksopp's "What Else Is There?" last year, that in a few months I'd put it higher. It's been on the top of my personal chart for four weeks now and is likely to stay there for a while yet.

006 Jenny Lewis With The Watson Twins "You Are What You Love" (UK Chart Positon - 121) And I'm in love with illusions so saw me in half, I'm in love with tricks so pull another rabbit out of your hat...I randomly downloaded her album in around February. And it was a great discovery. The first single "Rise Up With Fists" is a good song but it's probably my least favourite song on her album. This, however, is one of the best. It's not my favourite but it's certainly amazing. The album is in contention to be my album of the year. I doubt many people have heard this, but I know a few people do like her. There is no video but an excellent live performance from London earlier this year. Superb country-influenced indie-pop. 005 Gnarls Barkley "Crazy" (UK Chart Position - 01) My heros had the heart, to put their lives out on the limb, and all I remember is thinking I want to be like them...This was a song I first heard about a year ago when Zane Lowe was playing it. I was about to put it in my personal chart but changed how I compile it to match the release schedule again for ease. I wouldn't say I was caught up in its hype as I was one of the people to hype it. I knew it would be pretty big almost straight away but I would never have imagined it to sell so much and be the years biggest seller. It's the best number one single for me since "Stan" and probably in my top 10 number ones ever. The best thing about the song is it's so different from anything else around. A complete breath of fresh air to music. The album is pretty good, but this is easily its best song. They're incredible live too and I'd love to see them one day.

004 The Pipettes "Pull Shapes" (UK Chart Positon - 26) Dance with me pretty boy, tonight....I bet I've shocked some! But the truth is, this was never going to be number one. Even though I love it to bits its neither my favourite track on the album or has ever been my #1 of the year at any stage. I loved it since first listen and remember going to watch the cricket and played nothing but this for over two hours in a row on my mp3 player (it made it less boring I guess...) I'm not entirely sure how I discoved them, I only heard "Your Kisses..." a couple of times and never really bothered about it but as soon as I got this I knew they'd be a band that I would love. And I do. Their album is fantastic, though I have gone off it slightly it will still feature in my top 5 albums of the year easily. This is the highest placed song by a UK act! 003 Peter, Bjorn & John feat. Victoria Bergsman "Young Folks" (UK Chart Position - 35) It doesn't matter what you did, who you were hanging with. We could stick around and see this night through....This is incredible. It should've been so much bigger in the summer but the fact it even made the top 40 has to be one of the biggest successes of the year. It got minimal airplay and videoplay anywhere other than 6Music. It's a fun slice of indie-pop which matches the male and female vocals perfectly. There's a lot of whistling in the song which people may find annoying but I just find it damn catchy! It can be in my head for hours at a time after I've heard it (like today at work, for example). This may be my number 3 of the year but it's only the second highest placed song by a Swedish act!

002 José González "Heartbeats" (UK Chart Position - 09) Ten days of perfect tunes, the colors red and blue. We had a promise made, we were in love...When I first heard this I, like many people, didn't realise this was a cover. It came to the public's attention when it was used in "that advert with the bouncy balls" which, unless youtube has multiple extended versions of it, was actually the video. The song is rather spectacular and it's what a cover version should be like - nothing like the original and making the song your own. It's completely different to The Knife's version, infact if you'd heard neither and then heard them both together you'd have to listen closely to know they're the same song. His voice is beautiful and every track on his album is magnificant. However, I would still say it's a poor album as all the songs are quite similar and it's a bit boring But individually, each track is great. 001 STELLASTARR* "SWEET TROUBLED SOUL" (UK Chart Position - 94) And when you're naked in the dark I want to see your face in the reflection of my bedroom stereooooooooooooooo....94? Ninety-four? NINETY-f***ing-FOUR?!!! An absolute travesty! I can't remember how I discovered this song but I think I may have just downloaded it after seeing it in Dandy*'s personal chart at some point. I liked what I heard and decided I was going to buy both of their albums. But as I could never find their second "Harmonies For The Haunted" and their self-titled debut was never cheaper than £11 I downloaded it illegally instead. It's a fantastic album and I'd probably say that there are a couple of songs on it better than this ("My Coco" and "Somewhere Across Forever") That's how good they are. As I said in my post at the beginning, if the beautiful "Lost In Time" had been released also they'd have two songs inside my top 5
