How did Tommy Edwards' version of that song do in the number ones though?
My top 2 Cliff hits both peaked at #4 - Carrie and Wired For Sound.
Did Steps have many #2s? I think S Club 7 will be pretty high with Reach.

Think Steps had a few One For Sorrow, cover of Chain Reaction and Loves got a hold on my heart spring to mind.

I thought Delilah might be higher but I guess oldies aren't doing so well on here. Decent position for Mirror Man, has (Keep Feeling) Fascination come up yet?
Some are surprisingly high. How did "Heal The World" finish so high? I thought even Michael Jackson fans don't like that one.

Which is why I think polls like this ultimately fail. No one (or just a handful of folks) has heard enough to give an honest opinion of ALL the tracks.

I do agree that these results seem far biased towards more recent songs, whilst on the whole the earlier ones were much better.
We do have a little run of oldies there though as 151-156 are all at least 10 years old and apart from the Stone Roses, they all 80s or earlier.
Album polls fail worse in my opinion because nobody has ever heard every album, and even if they did, they wouldn't have enough time to listen to them all properly, i.e. a number of times that it takes to really appreciate them properly.
Noted that Kim Wilde also has both her number 2s in that section. She only reached #2 twice, plus two #3 hits "You Came" and "Rocking Around The Christmas Tree" (with Mel Smith) and she also had a #4 hit "Chequered Love".

Fat Les was so much better than the Official World Cup song.
Steps and S Club 7 were just two examples of pure classic pop.

I thought Reach might be in the top 100. Can't believe Sonique kept it out all those weeks. Also can't believe it only reached NM #26.
The list is starting to look a lot better, far more "classic" music in there. Are we going to count down the top 100 a lot slower?
