Not sure who to compare sleeper too, but you should check em out along with Elastica...who are punkier... Oh, I know Elastica! They had some US success with their debut album, they even put 2 singles on the Hot 100. 'Connection' was ace now that I think of it! It was an alt-rock hit over here in 1995, even MTV was playing it! I remember Elastica's singer was dating Damon from Blur for a while. When I saw Blur live in Boston, not long after Damon & Justine had split up, some fans were taking the p1ss on Damon and there were the occasional shouts of "Justine Frishman!" inbetween songs. Which I thought was kinda funny... ;D

A few favourite Britpop/90s Indie singles : Railway Children-Every Beat of the heart Sleeper-Nice guy Eddie 60ft dolls- Stay Charlatans-the Only One I Know Inspiral Carpets- Saturn 5 Northside- My rising star Longpigs-She said The Dylans-Planet love Real People-Believer Pulp-Something changed Nice list - I don't know much about 60ft Dolls, Sleeper, Longpins or The Dylans - Maybe more info on those? The rest I know well, especially the Inspiral's. Real People 'Window Paine' I would put on that list, but to be fair I can't place 'Believer'. Here's my CD list for Inspiral's that I imported to the US when I was a big fan (10 or so years ago now...) - the others I have just one or 2 albums at most: Beast Inside Bitches Brew (1 of 2 single) Bitches Brew (2 of 2 single) Commercial Rain (single) Cool As Disc 1 Cool As Disc 2 Devil Hopping Dragging Me Down (single) How It Should Be (single) I Want You (Single) Joe EP Life Move EP Revenge of the Goldfish Saturn 5 (single) Singles The Peel Sessions EP Uniform (1 of 2 single) Uniform (2 of 2 single)

space, you weren't a big fan of Tommy Scott's band then?
Britpop was murdered.
In 1997 the charts had everything. There were boybands and girl-groups, there was dance, there was rap and R&B and there was also indie/britpop. The last of those did moderately well in the singles charts (a few #1s like the Verve and lots of top 10 hits) and dominated the album charts (Oasis, Radiohead and the Verve's albums all sold more than the Spice Girls album from the same year).
Yet at some point which felt to me like it was the middle of 1998 they just killed it off. Existing bands were still getting songs into the chart but you didn't see any new bands.

"Country House" killed Britbop. Never taken seriously after that awful song, the whole Oasis vs Blur thingy turned it from music into marketing and it lost its cool.
