No doubt we had one back in the days of Mike W etc but they are so fantastic they deserve their own shimmery new thread.
One of the greatest pop acts of all time, yet never really set the charts on fire. I don't know why that is - maybe their non flashy image cost them dear. Still they are extremely critically acclaimed.
You do have to be in the right kind of mood to listen to them - if you're having a rough time you don't want something like 'Hug Your Soul' playing but when you are they are perfect.
My top 10:
1. Hobart Paving (single version) 2. Hug My Soul 3. Avenue 4. Pale Movie 5. Join Our Club 6. Finisterre 7. You're in a Bad Way 8. Tell Me Why (The Reason) 9. The Bad Photographer 10. He's on the Phone

OLCBYH is a great song but the Saints are such a great pop act that they don't really need to do covers.

but that cover is their most well known song! And it wasn't just a cheesy cover (like all the pop artists are doing these days...), it was a proper new version and was good!

Great band - would have to think about a top 10 though, these things should not be rushed!

Yeah, I really like the Etienne. I feel I should own more though, I only possess "Smash The System" so far so feel free to suggest what my next port of call should be...

Definitely the best known song with the indie crowd as that one gave them notice. Although they had far bigger hits later with their self penned stuff - and became more sophisticated pop.

Everyone should have a copy of Casino Classics in their collection - a top compilation

I'm still finding random shards of glass in my head 2 weeks after asking her if she wouldn't mind adding the critically acclaimed 'Aerial' to the jukebox.

Damn! I missed that evening. Perhaps she glassed you because I'd made the same request earlier that week.
Anyway, to return to the topic. My (ever-changing) top ten is currently:
01 Like A Motorway 02 Shower Scene 03 Hobart Paving 04 Stormtrooper In Drag 05 Avenue 06 Lightning Strikes Twice 07 You're In A Bad Way 08 Lose That Girl 09 Nothing Can Stop Us 10 Action

Saint Etienne are fabulous! My top 10 would be something like:
#1 Pale Movie #2 He's On The Phone #3 Like A Motorway #4 I Was Born On Christmas Day #5 Avenue #6 Cool Kids Of Death #7 Join Our Club #8 Hobart Paving #9 Tell Me Why (The Riddle) #10 Western Wind / Tankerville / Western Wind (from the original UK Edition of Tiger Bay)
Tiger Bay is one of the best albums ever and anyone who doesn't at least own a copy of either Too Young Too Die, Smash The System or Travel Edition has no taste.
