I'm thinking about putting all these songs that made the Top 75 onto a CD or 2, if anyone's interested? The ones that didn't chart might be too difficult to find I fear.
I'm reading through his autobiography slowly at the moment myself. First I want to properly read the smaller biography I bought last year. I agree Indi, the Festive 50s were the most interesting things that Peel did. I didn't listen to him when I was younger, his music was way too alternative for me at the time. But I always considered listening to these festive charts as I knew that there would be something I probably liked.

Wow love so many of those, never listened to John Peel much as he was a bit 2 electic for me.
Also shocked how high Paris Angels were,an awesome indie club track as was 'Soon' in the Andy Weatherall remix guise. I got Paris Angels indie! although its a pretty quiet mp3.

Thought I'd bump this with the songs from 1991, I've put stars next to the ones I know. If its 2 stars it means I like it, 3 if its a classic imo and its one of my favourites.

Anyone here heard of Laura Cantrell? She's fantastic and Peel was a huge fan.I've got all her 3 albums, just brilliant. Some of her songs were in his Festive 50's.She's a country singer.Peel described her debut album Not The Tremblin' Kind as "my favourite of the past 10 years if not all time" I discoverd her not through him though but purely by accident. Was in HMV and it was playing so asked who it was and bought it there and then. She really is good.

The name does sound vaguely familiar but I could be thinking of Blu Cantrell from 2003!
John Peel did have an eclectic taste though, one of the few times I caught his show was the year he died I think, when he played this Japanese song. This song then ended up on the tribute show that was done by Radio 1 on the evening he died. Still find it that quite eerie just thinking about it, a sure sign of how you can hear his show once and it can make a distance.

Am confused on the Pixes songs there... I thought Trompe Le Monde came out in '93. Also, where are 'Head On' and 'U Mass' and 'Subbaculcha'??! the best 3 songs from the album!
