Oh I love all of those Miester! I hadn't seen the Atlantic Starr one before, but I knew the song. Five Star need a DVD of all their old videos, they were so good! I'll have to pick some even better ones next

Mmmmm Pebbles... though 90s "Giving us the Benefit" Pebbles was much better.

I agree so much. R&B was so much more fun and dance-friendly the 80's
Currently, R&B is way too under the spell of hip hop for its own good.

Ooh! Love for this thread! May I nominate one? #16) Val Young Rick James dubbed her the Black Marilyn Monroe, and she released the top 40 hits If You Should Ever Be Lonely (which has been covered by Real McCoy, Mariah Carey, and Reina to name a few) along with Seduction (which also features vocals from Rick himself)

Welcome Kyles!!!!! I love a bit of Val! I have both her albums on my mp3 player. What a voice! Speaking of Rick James, though, did we ever discuss Ann 'Cheri' Bailey from the Mary Jane Girls, doing the vocals on an AATW version of Loleatta Holloway's 'Love Sensation'? www.youtube.com/watch?v=hW33f-jhu4s I think it's sacrelige myself!

Fabulous! I have the Seduction LP but I never found a record player to listen to it so all I've actually heard are the two singles I mentioned *haha*
I wish they'd reissue her work on CD (Private Conversations did receive a limited CD release but I never manage to win the auctions when they go on eBay) with some bonus 12" mixes and alternate radio/7" mixes!
And yes, I agree that it is sacrilege to cover Loleatta if they can't do it as good (which is TOUGH with that voice) but Cheri didn't do too bad...the voice is a bit thin compared to Lol's though!
