Scarlet Fantastic?? www.youtube.com/watch?v=CW5phls41vIThey only troubled the UK Top 40 with their hit "No Memory" which I stumbled on again flicking through a box of CD singles that I'd puchased long long ago, in my parents loft the other weekend. Yes yes yes, I could Wiki/net search them, but thought it would be more fun to post to see if anyone has heard of them since 1987? Ta. x

Nice one! Were these our answer to Roxette? I think the lead singer is a hairdresser, or soft porn actress, the guitarist is a taxi driver!

I think this was before the lovely Roxette, but could happily wax lyrical about them all day long.... Coming soon: Westworld, Fuzzbox, Screaming Blue Messiahs and Hollywood Beyond.

Keep em coming, they all sound interesting, Q had a section on bands like this didn't they? In fact I have some old Q's, I'll check what artists they feature and type up the answer before I pass the mags on at work. And yeah Roxette were 89, and these 87, so they led the way for Roxette

I did a bit of research on them just out of curiosity (oooh, Curiosity Killed The Cat, what happened to them?), and amazingly, they are still going....
From fansite:
Scarlet Fantastic are former Swans Way (Soul Train reached no. 20 in 1984) singer Maggie De Monde (lovelady) and Rick P. Jones (captain pleasure). They finally made the top 40 with their debut single No Memory, in the summer of 1987, the record gradually climbed to no. 24 and Scarlet Fantastic were born. The 2nd single, the raunchy and sexy Plug Me In (to the central love line) despite being highly plugged and remixed to extreme, failed to emulate their previous success and only reached no. 67.
With their garish videos and clothes, their promotion of Love & Anarchy and their own corporate identity, they were never to grace the top 75 again. Their next single Film Star Kiss featured a great poster sleeve for this vibrant and positive song. The last single Stay is a great ballad, both should've been hits and the album 24 Hours was deemed a flop. After this Maggie and Rick disbanded Scarlet Fantastic after one last chance - a re-issue of No Memory got nowhere.
Maggie got married shortly after to Leif Kahal (of Albatros fame). During the 90's Maggie & Leif recorded as "Kahal & Kahal" there first collaboration "Pilots of the Impossible" Recorded in Birmingham with Bob Lamb of UB40. Between 91 - 96 they were signed to PWL Records and recorded lots of material including "Show Me No Mercy" though none of it was actually released. After this they set up their own recording studio writing songs for themselves and other performers. Maggie hosted and performed at her own "Maggie's Music Nights" in Notting Hill, London, promoting new talent. In April 2000 they bought a small London club "EL DORADO" an underground music club and continued this theme. Visit the Vitaminic website to download Kahal mp3's. Maggie has appeared in the Hugh Grant movie "about a boy" and more recently in an episode of Ricky Gervais's "Extras" series with Sir Ian McKellan
Now
They have just released a new album with ex-Pop Will Eat Itself guitarist Graham Crabb as "Mighty K & Crabbi " the Album "Club Silencio" is available to buy or download from iTunes, and well worth a turn. Also look out for Yee-Ha remix of the track "Remember My Name" remixed by Dave Ball of Soft Cell. Maggie recently appeared in the line up on the BBC2 Pop quiz show 'never mind the Buzzcocks'

I don't remember them from the 80s at all.I know the song now though, from having bought a budget 80s compilation - I bought it especially for the track 'Room In Your Heart' by Living In A Box.I added Scarlet Fanstatic to my ipod a couple of weeks back.
** clears throat, and puts on best groaning to shrill voice **

No Memory was ok, I didn't like Soul Train by Swans Way though.
