what was the last intermate relationship you were in? I'm currently in one with a woman named Gretchen. She's going with me to Europe this summer.

I can't believe you have so many pets, I have 3 cats and that's more than enough! How do you cope? I know you're an animal lover, too, Robin. I'm a pushover when it comes to abandoned animals and all my pets are either from the Humane Society or I found them dumped somewhere. Except Murphy, the newest dog. I got him at a farm so Clyde had a buddy to run with (Truman doesn't run). All the pets are indoors and I renovated the house two years ago specifically because I had so many. I finished the basement so there was more room, fenced in the backyard so the dogs could run and added a bay window so the cats could lay in the sun. Murphy, however, thinks he's a cat and takes up most of the window space. I have always been lucky to have amazingly sweet cats, but this latest group is super. They're all cuddlers (except Jazz) but Oliver and Lillian are real lovey to everyone. Benny fetches a puff ball endlessly. Figaro is psycho and just starts flying around the house like someone's after him. They get along fantastically with the dogs, but Murphy gets on their nerves sometimes coz he's still a pup. When I'm out of town I have several people who love to check in on the gang, so they're not alone. My sister or one of my buddies sometimes just stays at the house, now that TJ's moved away. Then there's the kitty litter. I have a special room for that, in the basement in the back corner. The real chore is keeping it clean before Murphy gets to it. ;D As you can tell, I could talk forever about my "kids." I have some pictures I want to post, I just have to switch them to a disk.

Is America under Bush really as bad as the scare stories that make its way across the Atlantic?

Is America under Bush really as bad as the scare stories that make its way across the Atlantic? I suppose most people don't really notice a big difference in their lives when presidents change, but anyone who's paying attention will see that times are a changing. The religious right is feeling their oats and I fear many hard earned victories of the Democrats are going to be challenged in the next four years. Experts say the country will swing to the right for a while and then people will wake up and realize that the church has too much power in the political arena, and things will start moving left again. I just worry about how bad things will get before people wake up. The bible thumpers are coming out of the closet and are galvanizing the troops (lemmings) so that their candidates of choice (read devout Christians) get elected. It worked for Bush because in my State (Ohio) they arranged to have a gay marriage issue on the ballot at the same time and this issue brought the conservatives out in droves to vote against it. Those conservatives also happened to vote for Bush and thus he won Ohio, and the nation. Give them credit for being astute enough to get this all to happen, but it's very depressing to think about what else they are going to want to do. I'm hearing the conservative Christians are gearing up for the Ohio Governor's election and they have their candidate already chosen. Kenneth Blackwell leans far to the right and they want him in office. I'm not unreligious but I hate that the fundementalists think they can jam their agenda down everybody's throat. They truly believe they are the only ones who know what's right. Whenever you argue with them they quote the bible to make their point. I say that the bible is irrelevent in terms of the law, which gets them riled because they say the bible has everything to do with everything. How do you argue with narrowminded thinkers. Ahhhhhhhhh!! I forget, did I answer your question.

One of the main things I love about being away from the US is being away from the 'Christian Right'. That is as bad or worse than you think it is... trust me...
Anyways - where you from in Ohio? My fathers Side is all from Toledo

Thanks - very interesting. What I would say is that The Bible is a flawed and highly politicised documents with some of the books (especially some of the letters of Paul) well known by modern historical Scholars to be faked. There are several textbooks dealing with that issue and the authenticity of the Bible wouldn't stand up in a court of law. I'm not completely trying to undermine the Bible because there are some great passages there (the right wingers could do with reading some of Jesus' teachings ) but overall it cannot be taken to be a black and white bastion of absolute truth. I have the sad feeling that people don't really care about accuracy and logically rationalising the evidence presented before them and just want to join the holy rollers bandwagon though.

The bible is a wonderful book of stories, not to be confused with the absolute truth or the law. The holy rollers prey on people's fears and emotions and the need to belong to a group, even it comes at the cost of condemning others who don't agree. Most organized religion is filled with hypocrisy. In my quest for fellowship I'm looking into Reformed Judaism and Unitarian Universalism.
