the countdown BEGINS... BUT first, a quick run-down of the rules involved: - in an attempt to make this seem more like an all-time chart (which it is), almost all of the songs here have been known by me for a good few months at least, most of them more. as a result... - no singles that came out this year AND that were on albums released this year, have been considered - APART FROM a few exceptions that you will discover, that were deemed too good to leave out and now, for our feature presentation... 241-250241 goldfinger - ash 242 air - sparta 243 picture of perfect youth - feeder 244 too many sandwiches - stereophonics 245 smells like teen spirit - nirvana 246 strange & beautiful (i'll put a spell on you) - aqualung 247 can't explain - longview 248 closing time - semisonic 249 liezah - the coral 250 catherine wheels - crowded house the lowest entry in my top 250 is a song that i've known and loved since i was 5 or 6 - although back then i probably didn't realise it was about domestic violence ash and feeder, two of my favourite bands, make their appearance in the lowest group - plenty more to come from both the only entry from nirvana is pretty low, given that i don't know them all that well. semisonic and aqualung take massive plunges - they both got as far as the top 100 last year more to follow soon! provided i get some replies

221 good day to die - travis 222 hope for an angel - biffy clyro 223 grey harpoon - the coral 224 packt like sardines in a crushd tin box - radiohead 225 guiding star - cast 226 acquiesce - oasis 227 good riddance (time of your life) - green day 228 change of season - hundred reasons 229 night vision - hell is for heroes 230 tomorrow - james whatever you think of travis, the song that tops this group has to be one of their best in terms of lyrics. biffy clyro and hell is for heroes both enter here, the former nabbing the, erm, much-coveted 222nd spot plenty more to come from james and of course radiohead, while some of the biggest bands have yet to mark their lowest entries... comments very much appreciated thanks a lot *feels loved* ;D aaaaw...

aww... but do you like anything off "amnesiac"? and you must, by the way, hear "hail to the thief". let's see if this lot is any better? (although by definition it should be ...) 211 fingers of love - crowded house 212 i would - longview 213 actually it's darkness - idlewild 214 disarm - smashing pumpkins 215 right here, right now - fatboy slim 216 learning to fly - tom petty and the heartbreakers 217 george lassoes the moon - elbow 218 kung fu - ash 219 something for the weekend - super furry animals 220 firestarter - prodigy crowded house top this group with another song i've known for years and years, while the prodigy and elbow both register big falls and at 215 we have... *gasp*... DANCE a song that gets as many points for its evolution-themed video as it does for the music itself. meanwhile, idlewild finally get their lowest entry in the form of actually it's darkness ;D just one more set before we move into the top 200...

i think you might know a couple here, sofie... 201 all the way down (prologue & chapter 1) - biffy clyro 202 good fortune - pj harvey 203 grace under pressure - elbow 204 all eyes on me - goo goo dolls 205 stop whispering - radiohead 206 scar tissue - red hot chilli peppers 207 legacy - mansun 208 ironic - alanis morissette 209 sick happy - hell is for heroes 210 lucky man - the verve with their second entry, biffy clyro just about fail to scrape into the top 200, although they will be more fortunate later on, as will several other bands in this group the goo goo dolls also register their first, while mansun and pj harvey also miss out on the top 200 by a whisker. to come tomorrow... the first of the top 200! stay tuned for the bottom 50, all in one easily digestible post
