For Lightning Seeds, get 'Jollification'. Great album. Or you could maybe get their Best Of album.
For Embrace, if you like their current stuff, get their first album 'The Good Will Out'. Their second album 'Drawn From Memory' makes for interesting listening because it was so different from the first.

I find that a greatest hits album is usually the best way to start, so if there's one available go for it.
Pulp and Suede have released GH albums within the last 2 years, for instance. Both have great tracklistings that cover all of their hit songs. If you're looking for standard albums then I'd fo for 'Different Class' by Pulp and 'Coming Up' by Suede.
For Embrace I'd start with 'The Good Will Out', I think most would agree that's their best album.
There were a lot of Lightning Seeds songs that I loved, but I never became a big fan because I never could get into any of their albums. There were the hits but beyond them nothing else that appealed to me. They always seemed like a singles band in my mind, so I'd recommend their greatest hits.
I'm not a big enough fan of the other acts to make any recommendations on them...

Dido - No Angel, or some of the singles, Hunter, etc. I think her album is brill, not everyone's cup of tea, but I love it... ;D

'Tilt' is another great Lightning Seeds album, and perhaps their most underrated.

Thanks for all the recommendations.

Paul Weller - get the album Stanley Road. I don't have the Wildwood album but my guess is that is his second best. If you are also interested in the Jam and the Style Council, then you may get their greatest hits albums.
Divine Comedy released a greatest hits album and I guess you should get it.
Pulp: get Different Class and then His And Hers. I wouldn't bother with This Is Hardcore.

Yes, Pulp have a Greatest Hits Sofie
and although This Is Hardcore is less poppy than their earlier stuff its still a good album and worth listening to.

Pulp - Get "His N Hers". It's great!
Suede - "Suede", "Dog Man Star" & "Coming Up" are all better than the greatest hits.
Divine Comedy - some excellent stuff available from them. "Casanova" and "Regeneration" would be my suggestions as albums to start with.

Divine Comedy released a greatest hits album and I guess you should get it. But it's all the older stuff. I personall prefer the stuff that was released last year.

But it's all the older stuff. I personall prefer the stuff that was released last year. Get "Absent Friends" then... although "Regeneration" is actually better (released around about 2001/2002)
