Those are all good albums - some better then others I think. However musically and sales wise none of them had the impact that OK Computer had for instance.
Would like to see the sales of all these albums as that would make it easier to compare...
To be clear - REM are very, very good - just having trouble with people thinking they are better... I would have thought that if you liked one band you would like the other (except for maybe recent Radiohead...)

I've been trying to find some figures on the net, but not having much luck. But I'd lay a very large wager that 'OK Computer' has not outsold the best selling REM album worldwide.

I'll take that bet! even to date figures are fine (that gives REM some help...) Now..what to bet...?

If you come up with proof that OK Computer has outsold the biggest selling REM album worldwide, then I'll shake your hand and say you're right (Never Easy!) This is all I can find regarding REM: Not much and no real figures shown though.

That's really not true... Automatic For The People shifted shedloads. True. But Monster sold more. Thats their biggest seller to date. That was her decision!

True. But Monster sold more. Thats their biggest seller to date. Yeah, but she was talking about UK sales. I'm sure Automatic For The People sold more than OK Computer in the UK. And it sold more than Monster here too. Worldwide, I'm not sure.

Let the record state that radiohead won 13-11, in a very close battle against REM.

Thank you Dandy there, for thinking that I don't have my own opinion!!!!! I would just like to add that I think Radiohead are very good and I enjoy listening to them, but REM are my favorite. In part, due to the fact that they bring back happy memories from way back when, but because I also think they are talented and I enjoy their music... I seem to remember asking you to come to an REM concert with me... does this sound like a person who's had their arm twisted? hmmm hmmm hmmmmmmm? I rest my case your honour.

REM best selling albums worldwide are "Out Of Time" and "Automatic for the People" with more then 10 millions. "Moster" only sold less than 6 millions

It was Kristofferson who asked me to go to the REM gig! They are clearly the same person!!!

Well thats the bet! We're talking worldwide sales. i know, i was just saying. "worldwide" was assumed before it was used. i thought a little clarification was necessary, especially since 90% of voters were uk-based. in retrospect i could be wrong - it was based on something i'd always thought rather than actual figures anyway, going right back to the start of this poll, sales represented only one of the indicators of who was "the best" band. influence was the big one, and that's so hard to quantify. but all i can say is i doubt that most people when they voted were thinking about how influential or popular the bands were - they voted for who they like. radiohead won because more people like them than rem. you can't back up personal preference with figures.
