Tracks featuring samples from Eighties hits occupy the top two positions in the Upfront Club Chart this week. Winning the battle for chart honours, Supafly Inc’s Moving Too Fast is based around an instrumental phrase from Phil Collins’ 1989 monster Another Day In Paradise, while Rockefeller follow at number two with Do It 2Nite, which is a filtered house remake of The SOS Band’s excellent 1980 single, Take Your Time (Do It Right), which, although a classic song that topped the club chart, sadly never went higher than number 51 in the sales chart.
Like Rogue Traders, who topped the chart a couple of weeks ago, Supafly Inc are UK duo based in Australia, comprising Panos Liassi (Mr P) and Andrew Tumi (One). Rockefeller are a Dutch Trio, who were also behind the Beatfreakz hit Somebody’s Watching Me, which topped both the Upfront and Commercial Pop Charts earlier this year.
Although it narrowly fails to top the Upfront Club Chart – its less than 6% behind Moving Too Fast – Do It 2Nite moves 2-1 on the Commercial Pop Chart, where it trades places with Axwell’s Watch The Sunrise.
Another thing that the Rockefeller and Supafly Inc records have in common is that their promos include a mix by Ian Carey, who is the most prominent mixer on the Upfront Club Chart at present, also supplying mixes for Friday Night by Sex Machine ft Shena (up 24-8), Borderline by Michael Gray ft Shelley Poole (10-17), City Life by Fallen Angels (on the Boss Records sampler 19-19), Jetsetter (new at 47) and Miss Broadway by Belle Epoque (44-76).
After embracing six new entries a fortnight ago – its highest tally to that point in any week this year – the Urban Chart is even more active this week, with eight new entries and a new number one. Justin Timberlake, Field Mob ft Ciara, Ghostface Killah ft Ne-Yo, Nelly Furtado ft Timbaland, Alesha, Obie Trice ft Akon, Black Eyed Peas and Kelis ft Too Short provide the debuts, while Christina Aguilera’s Ain’t No Other Man completes a speedy 30-7-1 ascent of the chart, pipping Busta Rhymes, who climbs 4-2 with I Love My Chick.
