Beatfreakz - Superfreak
02 October 2006
It’s time to say ‘Hi! and ‘O MY GOD?!’ to the ultimate freak show band. (MEMORY JOG: The first was the massive “Somebody's Watching Me” which went Top 3, Top 5 TV and radio airplay! Sold 280,000 UK sales on cd and digital formats…. Remember their ‘Mini Thriller?).
BEATFREAKZ is like no other band ever signed, and it’s taken the Ministry of Sounds DATA Records Imprint to make the breakthrough. Instead of a bunch of mundane actors dressed as fish (Eurovision Song Contest anyone?) BEATFREAKZ really are human freakz – proper ones – but also fabulously talented performers, brilliantly staged, produced and destined for the top of the bill.
And in a brand-new video of the track every freaky dancer and shaker in town has been invited along to marry the current roughshod street look with the more flamboyant, showtime look of the band (Think Grandmaster Flash meets New York Underground.) Even “Madonna” makes an appearance – as you've never seen her before. Tribal in the extreme... Warped Factor: Maximum.
In all, quite a gang. Now meet 'em one by one.
BEATFREAKZ features the amazing 3ft 3 inch Dwarf MEKILL HACKSAW on lead vocals. (Mekill’s amazing talent as a singer and dancer already helped earn a previous incarnation of the band that Top 3 spot last year with Somebody’s Watching Me). And when Mekill does his mini-Michael Jackson, whooo, freaky or what? You’ll believe a dwarf can morph, so potential Mrs Hacksaws please apply.
Meanwhile, on drums and chimney pots meet one of the tallest freaks in the world: the extraordinary Justin Tallberloke (Tall Bloke), 7ft 5 inches of thrashing percussionist who has to transport a special EIGHT FOOT mattress with him wherever he tours. Justin doesn’t have a heart of gold. In fact he doesn’t have a heart at all.
On bass guitar (and bass guillotines when he can get hold of them) is Rubber Johnny ROTTEN. Sharp as hell, but wirey and smooth as an Aardman plasticine model. Gasp as his bizarrely double-jointed limbs and digits form chords and conceits on his bass guitar no normal mortal could match.
Grabbing the eyeballs and twanging them like harp strings come Beatfreakz’ tantalising twin backing singers, the filthy gorgeous Twizzer Sisters and you just know anything which looks that innocent HAS to be a HORROR STORY. You’d be right: they swing both ways. Just like the lyrics of their new single “SuperFreak”, they're “very kinky girls, the kind you don't take home to mother...”
And bringing up the rear, also the feet, the ankles and everything below the waist, here’s gorgeous contortionist CURLY MINOGUE, Beatfreakz’ sensational keyboard player, whose unnaturally bendy body rides her organs like a rodeo star.
MUSIC FACTS:
The track “SuperFreak” was written by the great funk star RICK JAMES for his smash album “Street Songs” from 1981. Sadly, James went to meet his maker just two years ago...
The original of the track was famously sampled by MC Hammer in 1990 for his Grammy-winning single “You Can't Touch This”.
So keep your eyes peeled (yucch) and your throat gaping (double yucch) and your heart pounding..thump thump thump...for the ultimate freak show ...
