Sven-Goran Eriksson has been told he will be sacked as Manchester City manager at the end of the season, BBC Sport understands. City owner Thaksin Shinawatra told Eriksson he was "not the right man for the job" at a meeting on Sunday, a source close to the manager said. Eriksson informed the players at training on Monday that he would be dismissed, provoking an angry response. The Swede, who has two years left on his contract, says he will not resign. Shinawatra has been unhappy with City's results since the turn of the year. The Thai billionaire was at the City of Manchester Stadium on Sunday to watch his team throw away a 2-0 lead to lose 3-2 Afterwards, he held a meeting with Eriksson and told him he would be dismissed after their final two games of the season. "Sven reacted calmly, as usual, but he was very surprised and disappointed," the source told BBC Sport. "He doesn't want to leave the club and will not resign. He loves working with the players and his work at Manchester City has only just begun." The club is refusing to comment about Eriksson's future. Eriksson took over as City manager five weeks before the start of the season and the team occupied third spot in the Premiership in November. However, their form has faltered badly since Christmas and they What a stupid decision ![8-)](//storage.proboards.com/999290/images/GFYWEXTCoVqJntqftLBh.gif)

What was the point of appointing him in the first place? He's done better than most managers would have.

Shocking decision. The report you quoted says that Shinawatra and Eriksson agreed a five-year plan, the first year of which was to finish in the top 10. They're guaranteed at least 9th and might even get into Europe. So suddenly Eriksson's not doing well enough?
He's the victim of his own success, swap the two halves of the season around and he'd be fine.

if someone like fiorentina came in for sven would sven stick around at a top 10 team. no. so maybe loyalty and trust issues are partly the issue but i think its more down t an impatiant w**ker of a chairman wanting to much to soon and not knowing the complex nature of football. stupid decision to sack him after getting him in the first place when he has reached the main objective for the season.

i also think sacking stewart pearce was a bit short sighted as that man has passion and drive and could be one of the best managers around in 5-10 year. so i hope man city burn

Has this chap got money to burn? So when he approves the next manager and sacks him next year when they are 8th, 6th or wherever, what will he do, appoint someone else? Does he really expect to win the Prem league? And the new manager will have players that aren't his and are peeved at their boss being sacked, not a happy dressing room at all.

he is a crook anyway, sven knew what he was in for when he took the job and its a decent pay out. so i bet he is laughing all the way to manage a better team on the continent where he can manage a champions league team and build them up without interfearence

Exactly. City's squad before Sven arrived was pretty awful, let's face it... Stuart Pearce did a really good job to keep them in the league, really.
