#20N.E.R.D - Seeing Sounds![](http://i494.photobucket.com/albums/rr301/Crazytowel08/Album%20Covers/untitled-31.jpg) Just about making it into my top 20 is Pharrell and gang. They've never really been on my radar apart from their song, 'She Wants to Move', but when I heard 'Everyone Nose', I was so intruguied I just had to check this album out. And I wasn't at all dissappointed. It's one of the most fresh and innovative records of the year, with a very experimental sound, unlike anything else that is out there right now. My absolute favourite track is 'Sooner or Later' but theres plenty of other tracks to listen to aswell. 'Spaz', 'Love Bomb' and the incredible opening track, 'Time For Some Action'. Another song that's really been a highlight for 2008 for me was 'My Drive Thru', and although that's not on the record, it's the same incredible sound.

A wide variety as usual, I'm not keen on most of it, but good to see Elbow in the top 30 ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/999290/images/WkoAxKupDXiUlSqYdleR.gif) And that Pink song was one of the best #1s of the year, not that that's saying a great deal ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/999290/images/Kwn0BjsNURZTBPjgpQCU.gif)

#19The Ting Tings - We Started Nothing![](http://i494.photobucket.com/albums/rr301/Crazytowel08/Album%20Covers/untitled-32.jpg) Another one of the best new acts to come in 2008!! The first single from this album didn't really recieve a big reception, 'Great Dj', one of my most played songs of last year. But when 'That's Not My Name' hit the stations, these guys just blew up! One of the best indie pop songs of the 21st century, and possibly one of the most recognizable tracks of the year. 'Shut Up & Let Me Go' was in the same league of their #1 hit, and the video for it was just... sooo... Ting Tings. 'Be The One' may not be as strong as single potential, but on itself its a great track that I wont get bored of. As an album, some may say it has a bit of filler, but I dissagree, and see 'We Walk', 'Fruit Machine' and 'We Started Nothing' are all highlights aswell as the singles. And that covers the majority of the album.

#18Girls Aloud - Out Of Control![](http://i494.photobucket.com/albums/rr301/Crazytowel08/Album%20Covers/untitled-33.jpg) Yet another brilliant album from the UK's favourite girl group! After the dance/pop sensation that was, 'Tangled Up', I was expecting more of the same, club banging dance tunes like 'Sexy! No No No'. So when I first heard 'The Promise', I was dissappointed for about 5 minutes, until I released that this sound was a whole lot better. They've followed the trend of making music simular to that of earlier decades, only these girls have done it with attitude, and fun. 'The Loving Kind' may not be as good as 'Call the Shots', or in my opinion, the best single choice, but it does the trick! My favourite track on the album is by miles, 'Untouchable'! If they can make a shorter radio version, that would be a brilliant third single!

Good chart so far CT.
The problem I found with Out Of Control is that The Promise made it a really hard act to follow. Don't get me wrong - I really like it, but after The Loving Kind on the album, it just kind of falls short of the mark a bit. I think I was waiting too hard for it to be excellent. I prefer Tangled Up to be honest (or even more - Chemistry).

There was a lot more single potential on Tangled Up I think.

#17Danity Kane - Welcome to the Dollhouse![](http://i494.photobucket.com/albums/rr301/Crazytowel08/Album%20Covers/untitled-34.jpg) I'd only ever heard of these girls before 2008, and I'd seen clips of the 'Show Stopper' video on MTV, and just thought it was more 'US Urban Trash'. But my whole outlook on music changed this year, and I've grown a lot more fond of Urban music. But that isn't really valid considering with this album, they've gone down the pop root a lot more. 'Damged' has become one of my favourite songs of 2008, and I'm just not getting bored of it, or it's fantastic music vid. Aswell as this dance/pop anthem, there are plenty other cracking songs on the album also. 'Bad Girl', 'Striptease' and my favourite two tracks, 'Sucka For Love' and '2 Of You'. Theres also a few really nice ballads on the disc, with 'Poetry', which has some really incredible lyrics, and another one of my favourites, 'Is Anybody Listening'. Overall, I think it's a real shame that things went wrong for the group, and that Diddy saw Making the Band as being more important than the girls futures, because they really could have gone places with their music.

#16Michelle Williams - Unexpected![](http://i494.photobucket.com/albums/rr301/Crazytowel08/Album%20Covers/untitled-35.jpg) When I heard 'We Break the Dawn' for the very first time, it was the first time I'd ever been aware that Michelle ever had a solo career. I was thinking it was all about Kelly and Beyonce. But for me, 'We Break the Dawn' is the best song to come from all 3 girls in a very long time. She wasn't afraid to go down the dance route, even in the US market. She does however still cross over into the Urban market with one of my top songs of the year, 'Hello Heartbreak'. The track is so well produced it's incredible! The beat on the track gets me going whenever I hear it. Other than these two favourites, I also love the second single, 'The Greatest', which just reminds everyone what a stunning voice Michelle has. Other highlights for me are the title track, 'Unexpected', 'Stop this Car' and 'Too Young For Love'.

#15James Morrison - Songs For You, Truths For Me![](http://i494.photobucket.com/albums/rr301/Crazytowel08/Album%20Covers/untitled-36.jpg) Following his debut album, 'Undiscovered' was always going to be a big ask, with incredible songs like 'You Give Me Something' and 'Wonderful World', and as far as lead singles goes, its 1-0 to his debut. 'You Make It Real' is a great track by all intent and purpose, but it just doesn't have that melodic quality that his previous songs had. The second single however, 'Broken Strings' featuring Nelly Furtado, may be one of the most interesting and groundbreaking collaborations of the year. Both of their voices just seem to go in sync with each other, and their simular acoustic styles work in harmony with each other. Apart from these tracks, others that I love are, 'Save Yourself', 'Fix The World Up For You' and my absolute favourite is 'Please Don't Stop the Rain'. It would be a travesty if this didn't get a single release.

#14Anastacia - Heavy Rotation![](http://i494.photobucket.com/albums/rr301/Crazytowel08/Album%20Covers/untitled-37.jpg) Its such a shame that she took so long off, because if she hadn't this project would probably have been a whole lot more successful for her. My expectations were high after classic songs like 'Left Outside Alone' and 'One Day In Your Life', and to be honest, I was more than a little dissappointed when i first heard 'I Can Feel You'. It did grow on me a bit more as time went on, but it really isn't anything special. The second single however, 'Absolutely Positively' was an instant hit for me, I loved it mainly because of the extremeley witty and clever lyrics. Apart from the singles however, the whole album is very sonsistent for me, and I can't pin-point any filler at all. The title track 'Heavy Rotation' is just incredible and should definately be released as soon as possible! And so should 'Deafeated' an awesome mid-tempo. These two songs as singles may actually turn this project around. Overall, it's a brilliant album that keeps my synced in from start to finish.

#13Neyo - Year of the Gentleman![](http://i494.photobucket.com/albums/rr301/Crazytowel08/Album%20Covers/untitled-38.png) This is the first Neyo album I've really loved, despite me loving a lot of his previous singles. 'So Sick', 'Sexy Love', 'Because of You', 'Do You' and 'Can We Chill', so basically everything. But when I first heard 'Closer', I loved it from the instant. The blend of Dance and RnB music was unlike anything I'd heard in a very long time, and it had me going crazy for ages. The follow-up, 'Miss Independent' is more of the same, though a little more tame. 'Mad' was a great choice for third single, and is one of the best male vocal performances of 2008, and one of the smoothest ballads he's done since his debut. Another two ballads on the album that I love are 'So You Can Cry' and 'Stop this World', and I think they both sound absolutely epic! Aswell as 'Part of the List'. But for me, the main highlight was a bonus track, 'Whats the Matter' simply because it has lyrical content that I think everyone can relate to, and I certainly can.

#12Estelle - Shine![](http://i494.photobucket.com/albums/rr301/Crazytowel08/Album%20Covers/untitled-39.jpg) I've been a fan os Estelle since the early days with classics like '1980' and one of my all time favourite tracks 'Free' from the incredible album, '18th Day'. So when I first heard 'Wait A Minute' I was so excited and expectant of a big comeback. So I was more than suprised when the single flopped and got almost no attention. So for me, 'American Boy' was just a breath of fresh air. Another one of my all time favourite tracks, and Estelle did it again, with my second favourite artist of all time, Kanye West. How could I not love it? And the album didn't dissappoint so I went out to buy it straight away. 'No Substitute Love' was one of the unsung classics of 2008, and a real highlight for me on the album, and so was 'Pretty Please' she really takes music back on that track. It would be difficult to talk about the album, and not mention the absolutely incredible track, 'In The Rain' which is one of my favourite tracks of the year, and pretty much sums up 2008 here in the UK. Hope it gets a single release sooner or later. Another track that I have to mention, which didn't make it onto the album, is 'Life To Me' with Hi-Tek. It's such a stunning song, and shows how vocally brilliant she is, and the lyrics are heart breaking!

#11Beyonce - I Am... Sasha Fierce![](http://i494.photobucket.com/albums/rr301/Crazytowel08/Album%20Covers/untitled-40.jpg) When I get around to buying this album, it'll mean that I have all her solo albums, and Destiny's Child's greatest hits, so it's clear to see that I'm a fan, and would have been very predictable that this would be so high up. I consider this one of my favourite albums of all time, so I was suprised tthat I couldn't put it top 10, when it would have been top 3 last year! But its just a testement to how good I think 2008 was. 'If I Were A Boy' has to be one of the most underwhelming songs of the year however. I really stopped liking it quite recently, and has suffered from being over played. So thank god we also had 'Single Ladies' which is THE BIGGEST urban club banger since Flo Rida and so deserved that US #1. I loved the 2 disc idea since I first heard about it, and when comparing them, the first disc is just epic all the way through, but the Sasha disc has its moments aswell. 'Diva' and 'Video Phone' really weren't my cup of tea at first, but they really are growers, and little gems on the album. 'Single Ladies' and 'Radio' just have hit all about them and I can't help but love them. But my second favourite track on the whole album would have to be 'Sweet Dreams'. I've loved for several months now, because of the leaked early version, and the beat just makes me go crazy. The first disc however, has songs like 'Dissappear' and 'Satellites' which show a more subtle and calm side of Beyonce, which is where I think she went a bir wrong with the last album (she sometimes screams a bit too much). I loved 'Ave Maria' from first listen and was just blown away by her vocals. I didn't know she could use her voice like that, just stunning. And then theres 'Halo' which has all the potential to be bigger than 'Irreplaceable' and her vocals again shine thoughout, especially on the high notes. I should also shout out for 'Save The Hero' which I actually really love, and wish was included on the UK version of the album. And the final point I have to make is, that If anyone is going to buy this, they have got to spend a few extra pounds and get the Deluxe Edition. The song 'Smash into You' is my favourite Beyonce track of all time and one kick start of a ballad! The lyrics are incredible, her voice is mind-blowing and it has to be a single at some point.

#10Kanye West - 808's & Heartbreak![](http://i494.photobucket.com/albums/rr301/Crazytowel08/Album%20Covers/untitled-41.jpg) After Graduation being one of my favourite albums of 2007, I really wasn't expecting his next to come so soon, especially as there were so many other songs that could have been singles on Graduation. But I must say, when the 2008 VMA's came along, and Kanye premiered 'Love Lockdown' it couldn't have come at a better time! It was one of my favourite songs of 2008, and is yet to be revealed in my top 50 countdown, so it's definately top 10. The same feel to the song is continued and magnified onto the whole album. He's the artist this year, who more than anyone, experimented with his sound and took a huge risk in doing so. I wouldn't even know whether to call it hip-hop, so I'll just say that Kanye created his own genre with this album. 'Heartless' is just as good as the lead single, and deserves the success it's getting both in sales and airplay all around the world. It's really difficult for me to pick a favourie from the album, as theres too many that I love, and in fact, no songs at all that I don't. 'Welcome to Heartbreak', 'Amazing', 'Paranoid', 'Robocop' and 'See You In My Knightmares' are all brilliant and revolutionary tracks for the hip-hop industry, and could all do well as singles following the success of the first two. But the track that I really do need to single out, and think should also be a single, is 'Coldest Winter'. I really recommend this album to anyone who wants to try something a little different in hip-hop.

#09Lil' Wayne - Tha Carter III![](http://i494.photobucket.com/albums/rr301/Crazytowel08/Album%20Covers/untitled-48.jpg) I would never in a million years have liked Lil' Wayne or any of his music before 2008. But the phenomenom that was his album in the States, caused me to get curious and give it a try. Before that, I was already a fan of 'Lollipop' and was pleased to see it charting in the UK as well as the US #1. So when I first played the album, I really did see what all the fuss was about. It's another revolutionary hip-hop album, that sort of broke the boundaries a little bit, with a completely modern sound, yet having a very old school feel fed by samples in the tracks 'Playin' With Fire' and 'DontGetIt'. Theres only a few tracks on the whole album that I perhaps wouldn't listen to without the full album, but the rest I thin are hits. 'Got Money' and 'Mrs. Officer' are tracks that most hip-hop artists would be lucky to get one of, and on this one album, Weezy has many! 'Let The Beat Build', 'Don't Shoot Me Down', 'Mr. Carter', 'Tie My Hands' and 'Dr. Carter' are all incredible tracks, that all give the album something a little different. But my absolute favourite track on this album, and one of my absolute favourite tracks of 2008, and maybe even of all time, is 'Comfortable'. On of the best combinations of RnB and Hip-Hop to come around in years, maybe since Nelly and Kelly Rowland did 'Dillema'. I went out and bought the album a couple of weeks after it came out, and I really would strongly recommend this to anyone, especially people who have a bad negative opinion of Lil' Wayne, because this incredible record may be what changes their minds.

808's and Heartbreak is a real recent grower for me. I do like Kanye West - but I tend to buy his albums and never listen to them (I don't think I have even listened to Graduation all the way through ![:-[](//storage.proboards.com/999290/images/sStDBPuQXleoqpIJwHYi.gif) ). The last two KW singles have been very good, so given this one a bit more of a chance. I Am....Sasha Fierce - the only problem I find with Beyonce is that singles are excellent, but the albums are a bit weak. I Am... is probably my favourites of the ones she has released so far.
