Not necessarily, it's a bit of a statistical anomaly, plus it's largely down to having Greece and Switzerland as the top two seeds in one group. They shouldn't have been seeded that high.

This is Switzerland's 4th consecutive tournament (I know they did host one...) so I don't see why they shouldn't be at least 2nd seeds within Europe.

This is Switzerland's 4th consecutive tournament (I know they did host one...) so I don't see why they shouldn't be at least 2nd seeds within Europe. Cos when they hosted one they lost 2/3 matches at home. So at best they should have been third seeds. The problem is they go back too far with the seeding and the knock-on effects go on for years. Assenmacher's poor refereeing in 1994 probably cost England a place in the final in 2002; had England gone to the States, even to lose all three matches (which under Turnip we were well capable of), we would have had Germany's seeding in '02 and a much easier route onwards. Greece prove the other contrast, they only made the '94 final after their number one seeds were removed, which gave them a boost that continued to Euro 04. And that reboot has continued to this past World Cup. For the next one they should be seeded below Switzerland. Why go back so long to rank teams? Just go back to the previous tournament.

Quick thoughts on the couple of games i've seen in the last few days.
England-Slovenia Just relieved we got through but a shame we didn't win more comfortably which would have been deserved, to top the group.
Portugal-Brazil - Absolutely nothing to say about this one!
Hope the knockout stages pick up, though i think they will, of the 7 group games I saw only 2 of them at most were good!

I do believe Ghana deserved to win today, although I was rooting like heck for the Americans…

I do believe Ghana deserved to win today, although I was rooting like heck for the Americans… I was a bit disappointed with the USA today. They had a good half hour in the second half and 5-10 minutes at the end of extra time but apart from that, Ghana were generally the better team. Based on what I've seen so far I would have expected Uruguay to beat either team. I think the USA could make a good go of things again in Brazil in four years' time.

Ghana were the better side in the first half, USA in the second and then Ghana were the better side in extra time. So Ghana deserved to win. Ah well, that's my office sweepstake money gone.

the problem with the usa is they keep leaking early goals in!
And they couldn't keep relying on scoring later winners.....!!

I really enjoyed Ghana-USA. It was full of passion and even when Ghana went back in front in extra time they still kept coming forward.

Delighted to see Ghana reach the quarters - it would be great and by no means impossible if they were to beat Uruguay.
England will go out when Frank Lampard misses a penalty today.
LOL John Terry is 8-1 fav to be the first Enland player to cry if they do get beaten!

Seems like the country will come to a standstill at 3pm. Many supermarkets are closing early to allow staff to get home. Large screens are being erected at Glastonbury, in Trafalgar Square, Hyde Park and many other parks. Tesco and Asda say the match, coupled with very hot weather today means beer, lager, cider and soft drink sales are going "through the roof" and extra stocks are being ordered in for this week. Pubs showing the match are expected to be jam-packed this afternoon and roads deserted. Germany is expected to come to a virtual standstill too, with huge screens being erected by the broadcasters, shops closing and beer sales too going through the roof.

We were crap...
And the goal that was disallowed should have stood, there was nothing wrong with it. The ref needs new specs from specavers.
