Which of these songs in the year 1961 in your view should not have been #1, I am doing polls for the whole Sixties this time, once we have 10 winners (we have to split up some years there is not enough options on a poll to match the #1's in a year plus joint winners) we will have a last poll to decide which song out of the years 1960-1969 should not have been #1.
These are 3 day polls this time.
Happy Voting

Dammit, this is a sad listing to see. They're mostly pretty decent, other than the Elvis ones, which are uniformly appalling - how were the mighty fallen.
Eden Kane's two brothers Peter and Robin had big chart hits; of course they used their real surname of Sarstedt.

It's amazing how good the #1s were in the 60s.
Although before my time I know most of these songs as they were quite often played on the radio in the 70s and 80s.

Voted for my least favourite ever Elvis Presley single.
Again, a great set of chart-topping singles.

Voted for Shirley who definitely suffers from "Trogg Syndrome" big time. None of her best known songs were her biggest hits and she tended to top with really dull ballads.

Wow, a 3-way tie with only 3 votes each. I sort-of expected Wooden Heart to be there and voted for Shirley Bassey myself. Didn't expect Frankie Vaughan to be unpopular though.

Not an Elvis fan but Wooden Heart I like.
Is there a vote off?

No, I would imagine all 3 will progress to the final. I am not sure if he intends to do 1960 so we get a full 60s vote, or if he will put 1960 with the 50s.
By the way I would suggest putting Al Martino into 1953 otherwise it's obviously the winner for 1952 being the only #1 that year. That is assuming you go back that far.
So the likes of Ken Dodd, Des O'Connor and Rolf Harris are in good company - with Elvis Presley and Shirley Bassey, not to mention the fact that Paul McCartney (solo) has won a year too.

Who voted for Moon River? It's one of the greatest vocal performances in British music history.

"Moon River" is a great song but maybe the voter did not like this particular version of it.
I do wish that voters would at least come back after the results to say which way they voted and why. I can understand keeping it anonymous before the results in case it influences others.
My reason for choosing "Reach For The Stars" is that despite it being sung by a legendary singer, the song just does nothing for me. I don't think it's really stood the test of time and anyone looking at Shirley Bassey's chart performances would be very surprised to see this as a number one with Big Spender, Goldfinger and Dianonds Are Forever pretty much flopping.
Actually the Shirley Bassey song was a double A-side "Reach For The Stars / Climb Every Mountain", the combination of which just gets you singing a totally different song.. Probably inspired it but I know which one I'd rather listen to.

Trying to vote for the 50s will be difficult - I'm not going to know many of the songs.

you can probably find streamable versions if you look. Maybe smiffy will provide links for us.
You have to judge songs in the era they are in. There will be a lot of big ballads in the early years, that just happens to be the popular music of that era.

The 1950s releases are all out of copyright now, so they could be bittorrented legally.
May as well say which one I voted for..."Wooden Heart". It's depressing to hear how vital and groundbreaking Elvis' mid-fifties songs were. When he signed up to the army the dross he recorded by rote to keep releases going during his time in khaki was execrable in the extreme. Lennon, as so often, was right.
