In the 2005 releases I would listen to the B-sides and sometimes chart them instead of the A-sides. "Wooden Heart" is one example: I charted instead "Tonight Is So Right For Love" which was a rock-n-roll'ed up version of a waltz by Offenbach. It was the only one of the set to get to NM #1. Actually if you look at my chart it had a strange run, whereby it crept up to #9 then leapt to #1 the next week. My "change" of the main track was the primary cause of that.
evansabove, I am not surprised as it is a poor song. I might also possibly have voted for Helen Shapiro's "You Don't Know". On the other hand "Walking Back To Happiness" is brilliant.

I am surprised as well about the Frankie Vaughan track. It's not a random 50s ballad that could be one of ten dozen joblot songs, it's not a novelty, it's quite a powerful, part-rock belter of a tune.

I voted for Burly Chassis as well. As has already been said, it's a pretty poor song when compared with the rest of her hits.

It's still better than the S Club version.

The 1950s releases are all out of copyright now, so they could be bittorrented legally. May as well say which one I voted for..."Wooden Heart". It's depressing to hear how vital and groundbreaking Elvis' mid-fifties songs were. When he signed up to the army the dross he recorded by rote to keep releases going during his time in khaki was execrable in the extreme. Lennon, as so often, was right. I can't add to this. I'm shocked at whoever the three of you were who voted for Frankie Vaughan, that's a fantastic song & vocal performance of its genre IMHO.

It's still better than the S Club version. I think not actually. Of course they're completely different songs but don't think it's pure coincidence that the S Club song mentions both songs from the double A-side together in the lyrics.

I went for Wooden Heart. Not into Elvis at all,but surprised that Are You Lonesome Tonight picked up a vote. I don't mind that one.
