We've had these lists for the Premier and Football Leagues, Scottish League and Conference and higher non-league levels. Now here's the list for the Northern League - home of my team Marske United.
The Northern League has a long and proud history. It is the second oldest football league in the world, having been formed in 1889, a year after the Football League.
The league covers the north-east of England and Cumbria, though clubs from Yorkshire have occasionally played in the league as well, as did future Scottish Cup finalists Gretna, who won the league twice in the early 1990s. Their benefactor, the late Brooks Mileson, was a long-time sponsor of the league and the League Cup is named in his memory.
Several clubs from the league have gone on to play in the Football League, including Newcastle United, Middlesbrough, Darlington and York City.
The league is also home to West Auckland Town, who won the Sir Thomas Lipton Trophy, seen as football's first-ever World Cup, in 1909 and 1911.
For a long time, it was seen as one of the top amateur leagues in the country but its status fell with the formation of the Conference in the early 80s. The league apparently refused invitations to become a direct feeder league to the Conference and remained outside the pyramid until 1991.
Although it now lies at step 5 of the non-league pyramid, the league is strong with its teams probably on a similar level to the EvoStik League clubs in the levels above (three Northern League clubs defeated EvoStik opposition in this season's FA Cup) but with so few north-east clubs in the top levels of the pyramid, the increased travel costs put many Northern League clubs off moving up. The league also shows its strength in the FA Vase, with Northern League clubs regularly reaching the latter stages and this season Whitley Bay are bidding to win the Vase for the fourth year in a row.
Here are the peaks for clubs who have competed in the Northern League. Current members are in bold.
