We are 11 medals up on this time in Beijing and six up in gold...are we really going to win that much more? Is the running order of events and when they are held the same for Bejing and London, in any case? I think we can still get another half a dozen gold medals. Sailing, boxing, canoe sprint and taekwondo could all give us gold medal chances. The running order seems to be roughly the same. There are slight variations depending on venues as some are being used by several sports but off the top of my head, I can't think of anything that is being staged at a completely different point in the games compared to Beijing.

I think 6 more golds is a bit of a stretch. I have the number 3 in mind.

I think getting another gold in the Athletics is going to be a stretch, mind you 22 golds is not to be sniffed at, and the rest, so I'm happy that the GB team are doing well overall.
I hope Keri-Ann Payne can get a gold, she's in within a shot of it at the moment.

Australia are not doing badly in the medals btw. 6 gold and 12 silver - it wouldn't have taken much to turn that into 12 golds and 6 silver. With a population a third that of the UK pro rata it's not far off.
I think what's happened is not that they've fallen back, but that the world has caught up. After the disaster of Montreal the Aussies put more effort into sport and that gradually bore fruit from the nineties onwards. And having reached a ceiling in performance other nations have now reached the same point. It'll take another paradigm leap to come up with more, but that applies to any other country.
The real shocker is Russia, and what always surprises me is how poor Spain are at the Games. Apart from 1992's home advantage, in which they got a number of contentious decisions in their favour from officials, they'd won 21 golds in 20 Games - and between 1924 and 1988 didn't win a single gold in a non-boycotted celebration.

Russian sport benefitted from communism in the 70s and 80s as did East Germany. He amount of funding its have been staggering for the nations to showcase their talent to the world. The breakdown of the eastern bloc coincided with the fall of the Berlin Wall and that signified the slow decline of Russian and German sport.

Italian one is very chirpy too. Not sure I've heard it so far this Olympics.

Sadly, the reply Wiggins is said to have sent on Twitter that is being widely circulated is fake, but I suspect most of us echo the sentiments.

I've always liked Japan's national anthem. Very unusual compared to most of the others - almost haunting.
For chirpy ones, Brazil's has to be right up there.

Taekwondo: as entertaining as people trying to kick each other in the head is, keep an eye on the referees - they're just as much fun to watch...

There will be more medals in sailing with a possibility of 2 Gold plus we may get something in the individual Dressage.
Then the final tally from the Boxing has to be added.
It does look as if the big rush is over though. We have another galant British loser in Keri-Anne Payne whom FIve Live had all but annointed a sure-shot.
Steve Cram must have been listening in to my conversations or reading what I have been saying for years about Lisa Dobriskey - he was talking last night about how she ran a great tactical race for a change last night instead if getting boxed in on the kerb.
If she doesn't revert to form in the final of the 1500m she could really surprise everyone.
Disgraceful that South Africa have been given a place in the final of the men's 4x400m relay.

I think the last few days were always going to be slow for GB, I think it's all lost a bit of steam now, I'm finding myself less and less interested in what's going on. Bring on the closing ceremony! I feel the same now, but I keep the TV on in the background, and if something interesting I sit down and watch, I saw the British entries in the Taekwondo earlier, they are both through to the quarters this afternoon. Jade Jones was pretty good, and Martin Stamper was awful, he was lucky to get through all the points came towards the end of the last round. I feel sorry for the Athlete's taking part in their sports towards a the end of the Olympics. A lot of people seem to be losing interest now and the euphoria of last weekend has died down. Hopefully the crowds there are still just as passionate and enthusiastic!

I saw the BMX cycling that was awful to watch, it should have came with a public health warning, and its very fast paced.
