=====================================
Day 9 saw GB add eight medals to its tally - the most of any day so far - taking the total to 37, including 16 golds.
Day 10 could see GB edge closer to the Beijing total of 19 golds, and possibly match it if things go really well.
Britain already has five cycling golds in these Games and Jason Kenny could make it six in the sprint. He was given the nod over Olympic champion Chris Hoy and has looked in fantastic form so far.
World 400m hurdles champion Dai Greene only got into the final as a fastest loser but is still running quickly. Like Christine Ohuruogu, he's a big race performer, and although gold looks unlikely, the home crowd could carry him to a medal. Holly Bleasdale has had a great season in the pole vault and has a genuine medal chance.
GB's showjumpers are well placed going into the final round of the team competiton. They are in a four-way tie for 2nd with Netherlands, Sweden and Switzerland, just behind leaders Saudi Arabia.
Britain's greatest ever female gymnast Beth Tweddle qualified in 1st place for the uneven bars in what will almost certainly be her last ever competition (though she is first reserve for Tuesday's floor competition). Tweddle has twice been world champion on the uneven bars and delayed her retirement in order to compete at London 2012 and hopefully win her first Olympic medal. Kristian Thomas returns to the vault, just days after a stumble cost him an individual all-around medal.
INFOSTRADA SPORTS' VIRTUAL MEDAL TABLE PREDICTION:
Gold: 1 - Jason Kenny
Silver: 2 - Dai Greene, Paul Goodison (eliminated from medal contention)
Bronze: 1 - Beth Tweddle

Same as others on Haven just can't get over-excited about the 100m.
Absolutely delighted for Christine Ohuruogu - you can't ask any more than an athlete goes out and performs their best and this she did . If it isn't good enough so be it but a wonderful Silver. She produced when it mattered, just a pity the swimmers couldn't.
Disappointing defeat for the British Women's Hockey team losing to China - I though they were in with a great chance. They need to hold the very strong Netherlands today if they are to reach the semis.
I really don't see Dai Greene getting a medal today - he just hasn't been able to put the training he needed in because of the op he had in the winter.
Quietly confident about Beth Tweddle.

Jason Kenny should get gold.
As for swimming, if you excluded swimming from the Olympics medal totals, US would have just 12 gold medals! (16 of their 28 are for swimming!) GB has none. In theory, if GB improves in swimming and wins medals at the expense of the US, they could over-take the US in gold medals....or at last reduce the gap.
The goal for the next Olympics must be to reduce the gap with China and US and that means more swimming and diving medals as well as retaining events GB are good at.

I was going to say the GB footballers under-performed too. But that's not right - we expected them to lose, especially if it went to penalties. South Korea, ffs! Ryan Giggs, being Welsh, said he regretted in his career not playing in World Cup finals or Euros. Well, now he knows what his English counterparts experience ....losing on penalties. But at least in the past England did lose to good teams, notably Germany. But SOUTH KOREA?

I think Dai Greene will run the race of his life today. After the disappointment of his heat run thinking he'd gone out he'll be totally relaxed. He's got lane 3 in the final which is more than he deserved after his semi so he should now make the most of it.
Akabusi's british record as a minimum !!

Yeah, I think he might need to break that record to get a medal but with these finals, you never know. Like I said yesterday, the time he ran in the semi was quicker than the time he ran in the final in Daegu, but several contenders have really upped their game.

Felix Sanchez especially. It's great to see as I thought he would be close to Kevin Youngs world record a few years ago.

South Korea aren't a bad footballing side. And how can you expect us to match the US and China in medals, what are the respective populations?

Great to see big Lawrence Okoye make the discus final with his final throw this morning. I don't think I've ever heard a crowd erupt like that for a throw in a discus qualifying competition (or maybe any discus qualifying competition).

The Algerian 1500m runner who stormed through the semi-finals last night (and seemed to make Steve Cram rather suspicious) has been thrown out of the games for not trying in the 800m heats this morning.
He jogged through the first 200m, then pulled off the track.
Meanwhile, uneven bars starting soon...

To my knowledge they were still allowed to compete in different events. So where's the consistency?

Well each sport at the Olympics is run by the relevant governing body so this decision was made by the IAAF, while the badminton players were disqualified by the Badminton World Federation. It might not be consistent but it's unlikely you're going to get consistency with so many bodies involved.
