The Algerian 1500m runner who stormed through the semi-finals last night (and seemed to make Steve Cram rather suspicious) has been thrown out of the games for not trying in the 800m heats this morning. He jogged through the first 200m, then pulled off the track. Steve Cram has been the worst commentator at the Olympics. Basically accusing someone of their performance being enhanced illegally despite the run being over 10 seconds off his personal best, and the top 9 in the next heat all running quicker, his complete refusal to even acknowledge Dwain Chambers is annoying and wholly embarrassing. Yes, he can have opinions but he works for the BBC, so at work he has to be impartial! Makhloufi now reinstated for the final!

All the exciting events are finished now But the Paralympics will be starting soon! Yes, he can have opinions but he works for the BBC, so at work he has to be impartial! Impartial on the BBC? That would be a first...

Don't be so pessimistic. The Olympics have loads of events yet and 7 days of competition left. The big one for me is the mens triathlon later on. Can't wait for that.

Two more golds on Day 10 saw GB move to within one of the Beijing total of 19. Day 11 could see them smash that total into oblivion.
Things start early with the men's triathlon. World champion Alistair Brownlee has overcome an achilles injury and is favourite to win gold. His toughest competition could come from his brother Jonathan.
It's the final day in the velodrome with three gold medals up for grabs. Sir Chris Hoy will attempt to defend his keirin title and Victoria Pendleton will try to do the same in the sprint. Gold for Hoy would make him Britain's most successful Olympian of all time. Laura Trott leads the omnium at the halfway stage after winning two of the first three events. If she can perform well in the scratch race (which was Ed Clancy's undoing) she has a great chance of a gold medal.
After team showjumping gold on Monday, GB could add team dressage gold as they lead going into the Grand Prix Special.
Monday was a disappointing day for GB in the Olympic Stadium, but they can get back on the medal trail with Robbie Grabarz in the high jump. Grabarz has been a sensation this year, being ranked in the world's top 3 and winning the European title at the end of June. He qualified for the final with ease and seems to relish performing in front of the big crowd. Tiffany Porter may have an outside chance of a medal in the 100m hurdles and the unpredictable Lawrence Okoye could snatch a surprise medal in the discus if he can produce his best form.
Windsurfing says its Olympic farewell on Day 11 - it will be replaced by kitesurfing as one of the sailing classes in Rio - but Nick Dempsey is well placed to win a silver medal. However, Bryony Shaw looks unlikely to repeat her Beijing bronze medal.
INFOSTRADA SPORTS' VIRTUAL MEDAL TABLE PREDICTION:
Gold: 3 - Alistair Brownlee, Chris Hoy, Victoria Pendleton
Silver: none
Bronze: 4 - Jonathan Brownlee, Laura Trott, Nick Dempsey, team dressage

And how can you expect us to match the US and China in medals, what are the respective populations? I said in theory GB could over-take the US, but at least could reduce the gap. Look at the facts: US 29 gold medals GB 18 gold medals As US has 16 gold in swimming and GB none, then a gap could be reduced in future games. Easily. In terms of population of course GB has 1 for every 3.44m people and US 1 for every 11m or so. In that regard we beat the likes of China and the US. China with 1.3 billion are showing a poor return, in realtion to GB. If you take a country's gold medals and compare it to a) total number of gold medals won b) its population as % of global population, then roughly speaking you get: 178 golds have been decided (at the time of writing this) China 31 (17.4%/18.5%) US 29 (16.3%/5.0%) GB 18 (10.1%/0.9%) GB is doing 10X better than its population merits. US just over 3 times and China slighly under-performing.

Sir Chris looking beautiful in qualification this morning. Phillips Idowu and Goldie Sayers have failed to make their respective finals.
Now sat down to enjoy the men's triathlon.

Disappointing to see injured athletes struggling - the British trio of Idowu, Sayers and Pozzi, plus the great Liu Xiang being taken out of the stadium in a wheelchair.

Don't envy the triathlon competitors one bit. The water they swim through is green!

Don't you just love it?
Apparently Yorkshire has more Gold Medals than Australia!
The whole Idowu episode was a complete farce.
We've slept in the past couple of mornings probably because we're not used to watching so much television.
With only the High Jump tonight where we might win a medal I might take a break from it after the cycling.
Charles van Commenee will use the injuries as an excuse for not reaching the target in Athletics medals.
In truth after Saturday there have been below average performances from some of the Athletics team oterwise there's success accross the board.

watching the triathlon, one of the Brownlee Brothers, have suffered a 15 second penalty, I think.

Anyone read Wendy Houvenaghel's rant against her team-mates and the cycling team bosses over not getting to ride in the team pursuit?
While I can sympathise over not getting to ride, and therefore not getting a medal, her comments just make her look selfish and bitter.

I don't understand this 15 second penalty fiasco at all. That's a considerable amount of time in any race.

Going well in the triathlon. Both Brownlee brothers part of a 3-man break with Spain's Javier Gomez, but Jonny Brownlee still has that 15-second penalty.

Alistair's opened up a 5-second gap with 2.5km to go. Jonny's served his penalty but is still in 3rd place.
