Some reason this felt bigger than number 27 fifteen years ago.

Unfortunately, there's no official video but this one still sounds good 30 years on

C.C.S. are mainly known for their cover of Led Zeppelin's 'Whole Lotta Love' which was not only a top 20 hit in 1970 but which was also used as the Top Of The Pops theme for a number of years (technically the TOTP theme version was recorded by the TOTP orchetra but members of CCS were part of the orchestra). However the band had 5 chart entries including this one. The intro is memorable to anyone of a certain age as it was used by Tom Browne on Radio 1 as the theme for the Top 20 programme on a Sunday evening while the main part of the song was also used for a short while as the bed when Tom counted down from 20 to number 2 just before playing "Britain's Number One".
CCS - Brother (#25, April 1972)
"It's 6 O'clock on Radios 1 & 2, my name is Tom Browne, and this is the Top 20 as compiled for the BBC by the British Market Research Bureau"

Billie Ray Martin 'Imitation of Life' gave her a small hit.

Crystal Waters notched up a few chart hits. 'Relax' was one of the smaller successes.

Not as good as Hideaway but a great 90s club track.

Caliban's Dream by Underworld featuring Dockhead Choir, Dame Evelyn Glennie, Only Men Aloud, Elizabeth Roberts and Alex Trimble
A lovely, hypnotic track written by Underworld for the olympics opening ceremony in London in 2012. Released immediately after the ceremony, it reached no. 12 in the charts. Don't think I've ever heard it on the radio.

Not quite another 'Brimful of Asha', but 'Sleep on the Left Side' was a small hit for Cornershop.

When The Beatles had the top 5 in the US, who was the unlucky act at no. 6?
One-hit wonder Terry Stafford, who would climb 2 places higher, but who would not make the top 30 in the UK.
The song however would in 1976. For some reason (presumably cash-in), RCA released the original in the UK for the first time as a 45, which had been recorded in 1962, and it went top 10...

One of the greatest ever disco records and one that i bought at the time. the "rock freak" part is well known though as it is sampled on 'Bring me Eidelweiss' by Eidelweiss, from 1989.

My third and final nearly forgotten hit is from 1981. The Expressos were a good band but didn't get the chance to make the big time as they were caught up in a chart rigging scandal. As a result the label (WEA, who had form for chart hyping) hung the band out to dry and they were soon dropped once the album had been released. This song is a great 60s pastiche. Unfortunately the video is somewhat spoiled by the loud beep at the start (it's the production clock).
