Cross-thread alert to show the sole chart hit I can find for KA Records; landfill synthpop from The News. They were a Newcastle band, Robbie Foster (vocals, saxophone), Terry Newman (bass), Geordie Sanger (guitar and songwriter), Paul Grieveson (keyboards), and Martin Rooney (drums). And every time I google Geordie Sanger I get Dutch articles about AC/DC.

Top 50 hit in the USA, but, I reckon if you asked someone about Stillwater, and they knew a bit about music, they'd be more likely to mention the fictional band from Almost Famous than the genuine Southern rock outfit from Georgia.

Two forgotten minor hits by music legends who passed away in 2016:
A song reflecting an old couple wishing for their days of their halcyon youth to return, when things were actually "awful dark"; one which just over a month ago has become suddenly more relevant to all The s*n/Daily Heil/Daily Express readers who voted for Brexit and was happy with Russia's interference in this country:
David Bowie - When The Wind Blows (1986 UK #41)
A lovely bluesy pop song with an interesting lyric played out in the video:
Prince - Dinner With Delores (UK #36 1996)

Blue Pearl are best known for 'Naked In The Rain'. This gave them a smaller hit, 'Little Brother'.

Snap 'The First The Last Eternity' was a moderate hit.

Tricky notched up a few hits including this, part of an E.P. 'Hell Is Round The Corner'.

Tatjana's 'Santa Maria' should have been a massive hit record. Maybe all the advertising budget went on the video... Very famous story this. 'Santa Maria' was all set to become one of the smash hit singles of the summer, plenty of pre-promotion which had even included Tatjana being groped by Eamonn Holmes on GWTV. The record was set for a Top 20 placing according to the midweek charts in the week of release. On the Friday a series of suspicious looking bulk sales triggered alarms at Millward Brown and so to protect the integrity of the chart the sales of the record were discounted totally. Mike Stock, who was behind the British release of the single, went absolutely apeshit as all the effort that had gone into the record had been wasted, not to mention the several thousand sales of the single that would count for nothing. A subsequent investigation showed that there had been an attempt to 'buy-in' the single but it had been nothing to do with the record company or anyone associated with it - hence the single was cleared for a re-release whereupon it stuttered into the bottom end of the Top 40 and then sank, a waste of a rather fabulous single. Great story what a shame DJ Milano featuring Samantha Fox reached no.31 (28/03/1998) with their version and ended up being Sam's final visit to the UK Top 40

Loved Guillemots! After a promising start they pretty much just dropped off the face of the earth.

Ghosts - Stay The Night
I loved their debut album "The World Is Outside" - a number 25 in 2007. Can't find the proper video on Youtube unless I am just being lazy.

Everyone knows 'the one and only', but his follow-up was quite good as well:

I'm not sure if a single from 45 years ago qualifies as a nearly forgotten hit when most people wouldn't even be aware of its existance. However, this is a great single from 1977 that seems to be almost forgotten.
Racing Cars - They Shoot Horses, Don't They? (#14, March 1977)

^ Welsh band IIRC. Deserved better.
^ still going, Whitley Bay's Tygers of Pan Tang, nearly cracked the 40 with this cover.

Number 34 in 2004. The album was actually OK.

This rather good track from Beth Orton offers some Everything But The Girl vibes.

Although the Ronan Keating version is perhaps better known, Lee Ann Womack just managed a top forty hit with 'I Hope You Dance'.
