So I've been messing about in Flash for a few weeks and I've put together a virtual version of the league ladders and team tabs you get in Match (and Shoot back in the day). It was originally intended to be a full-size wallchart that would fit on the back of a door but when I figured that might not be feasible due to printing costs I decided to make a virtual version. Because it's been scaled down, and due to Flash's limitations, it's smaller that I would've liked and some of the longer team names are hard to read but that's something that can be worked on. I'm still trying to iron out a few bugs, but if you want to take a look and offer some feedback, you can download it here: www.mediafire.com/download/5wdzj73dwg6q6gd/Virtual_League_Ladders.zipJust download the file, unzip it and extract the contents, then open the HTML file and you can start playing with it! If your browser's set up to remember things, the tabs should be in the same position you left them in when you open it again...

Cheers Murray! I may well do a Scottish version at some point now they're pulling their finger out regarding the restructuring...

Cheers Murray! I may well do a Scottish version at some point now they're pulling their finger out regarding the restructuring... It certainly brought back memories from when I used to do them when I was younger. Do they still do the tabs? But again, well done, looks great and very easy to use.

Match still do them, though I think they only go down to League Two and the Scottish Premier. I think Shoot disappeared in physical form quite a while ago, which is a shame as I always preferred it over Match (except when they did those stupid static stickers instead of the team tabs).
Thanks again mate.

Very cool. I have a few suggestions:
- it'd be good if it were possible to type in the cup winners' fields.
- have you tried a feature where teams automatically swap places when you drag and drop?
- oh, and (harder) how about snapping the teams' tab to a correct location, so that if you're a few pixels out when you drop, it still looks nice?

Good stuff. How about highlighting the positions to show promotion / play-offs / relegation places?

Thanks frag. The 'snapping' thing is something I've thought about and will look into. I was using a free trial to make this so it was a race against time to get all the code finished in time so I wasn't able to implement any more features. The cup thing should be easy enough to do. I hadn't thought about the swapping places thing. It might make things easier in some ways but it also has the potential to make things very confusing if you're not just putting them in the right positions.

So I've decided to create an updated version of this while I'm off work for a while. Flash will be no more at the end of this year so I'm creating a brand new version from scratch and teaching myself the relevant bits of code as I go along. It should be easy to do though.
One change I'm potentially making from last time is maybe breaking it down into 3 or 4 different versions rather than having around 50 leagues all on one page.

Managed to make a surprisingly good amount of progress with this today. Here's a video showing what I've done so far. You can see the drag and drop system as well as how the team tabs remain where you left them when you reload the page.

Looks nice!
One suggestion: have you tried snapping the tabs to the grid? (i.e. if you drop something a few pixels away from a slot on a ladder, shift it so that it lines up nicely with the rest)

I'm guessing it can be done but in the short term, I'm focusing on adding more leagues and teams. National League (plus North and South) will be added to the site today.

All step 3 and 4 leagues (Northern Premier League, Isthmian League and Southern League) are now on the site.
I've also fixed a bug which made moving the team tabs difficult on touchscreen devices.
