This starts tomorrow morning in Zurich. Seems a bit of an afterthought after the Commonwealth Games, but in many events it should be a much higher quality competition - especially as there are no other major championships this year for the rest of Europe, unlike the last Euros, which were a pre-Olympics distraction with most of the top stars missing.
GB won 4 golds in 2012 - Mo Farah (5000m), Rhys Williams (400m hurdles), Robbie Grabarz (high jump) and Lynsey Sharp (800m - upgraded from silver), while the last "proper" European Championships in 2010 saw GB win 6 golds and 19 medals in total.
Farah and Sharp are back to defend their titles with Farah aiming for another long distance double. Grabarz is absent due to injury and Williams is currently suspended after failing a drugs test. However, there are still plenty of medal hopes for GB in the form of Greg Rutherford, Eilidh Child, Adam Gemili, Tiffany Porter, Will Sharman and the relay squads.

Looking forward to this - tbh much more so than the Commonwealth Games.
Paula Radcliffe and Mo Farah have had a spat with Paula criticising him for missing the Commonwealths to concentrate on the "weaker" Europeans (in his events).
Interesting to see how Christine Ohuruogu goes - she does seem to raise her level for the biggies - don't know what sort of form she's in though.
There seems to be a bit of a buzz about the women sprinters after a long time in the wilderness - this should maybe give some indication of how they are measuring up.
Still sticks on my craw to see Chambers there.

Great for Jo Pavey - always been there or thereabouts in the Championships but nice to see her get a gold. A real tough performance - no one was going to get past her easily on that last lap.
I expect to see her on the short list for sports personality after her Commonwealth performance as well. The nice media story helps of course

Gladdens the cockles of your heart - all the more so because it was unexpected.
Overall a pretty good day for the Brit team.

What a great championships for GB so far. 4 golds, 7 medals in total and certainly more to come.
I agree with roos1ter about Jo Pavey being on the SPOTY shortlist. With so few British sportsmen and women achieving big things on a global level this year, it will really open the shortlist up to some unlikely contenders like Pavey and Claudia Fragapane. Rory McIlroy looks a dead cert to win it though.

Will probably use the situation to include more female nominations.
I presume Rory McIlroy is eligible? - by his own choice he will represent Ireland at 2016 Olympics.

Great afternoon of athletics with no less than 5 Gold Medals for GB & NI - Greg Rutherford in Long Jump, Mo Farah in 5000m and the men's 4x100m and 4x400m and women's 4x100m relay teams. The women broke the national record which had been set way back in 1980 with the great Cathy Cook in the team.
Andy Vernon took a Bronze in the men's 5000m with the women's 4x400m team gaining a bronze but there was only 0.1 sec between first and third.
Don't know why Christine Ohuruogu wasn't in the team which would surely have have given them the gold - I know she was having a "down" year but even so she was running fast enough to come fourth in the individual event.
With a lack of success for British sports stars this year the contenders for SPOTY will be interesting and there could be multiple inclusions fron athletics.
I would definitely include Jo Pavey and Greg Rutherford a Commonwealth and European Gold and a new British record.

What happened to Jo Pavey in the 5000 as I missed it, and thought she'd get a medal there?

What happened to Jo Pavey in the 5000 as I missed it, and thought she'd get a medal there? 7th place GB did brilliantly this time around. As well as the big names performing superbly, there were plenty of younger stars to get excited about too. This suggests we have the conveyor belt running smoothly, and depth of talent in our coaching as well.
