Re my #2 selection:
I guess some people (like myself) get/like artists using auto-egos making humorous self-effacing concept albums fusing the music of Latin, funk, pop and jazz, with the retro image of Cab Calloway Big Band and Zoot Suits becoming successful in the UK because August Darnell's US outfit played their 'Retro Comedy Music Cabaret' at London's Comedy Store (the home of alternative comedy) between sets by the Dangerous Brothers (Rik Mayall & Ade Edmondson); Ben Elton; Alexei Sayle; Nigel Planer; French and Saunders; bringing them to the attention of the media; etc. The video was directed by one Peter Richardson the driving force behind the numerous The Comic Strip Presents... TV films, and their cinematic spin offs; Stella Street; and a dozen or so other pop videos by the likes of Slade; Kate Bush; Iron Maiden; etc.

But the most famous new entry this week was Renee & Renato, you wont be seeing that in my chart, although I bet I would have charted it then. The debut of Wham! isn't that far away and in the future George Michael will also knock "Valerie" by Steve Winwood off #1, the time when it reaclly got there.
I may be behind but I was ahead in charting Air Supply's "Even The Nights Are Better" when I picked it off the US chart. Their follow-up "Young Love" was a flop, after seven consecutive top 5 hits, peaking only at #38. My record books show it entered this week and thus I am charting it. Whether or not it should be the highest entry, I'm not sure. It's on their album "Now And Forever", their last one that sold over a million in the USA. (It peaked only about #23 or so but probably remained in the chart for a lot of weeks). They would have another #38 single with "Too Less Lonely People In The World" but that will be a flop on here too. Just not particularly good. However 1983 will see them rise to the occasion once more.
Eddy Grant and Dionne Warwick get the next couple of entries, the latter written by the Bee Gees. These would end up as the UK top 2 for a couple of weeks. Chris De Burgh I have entered at this point, Abba are not yet in this chart.

I've developed a guilty pleasure for Renee & Renato these last couple of years, I'm sure had I been around and older in 82 I would have hated it but am loving it now

I'm one who has liked most of Paul McCartney's music and also think Michael Jackson made some great music, but there is no saving aspect of "The Girl Is Mine". Boring tune, naff lyrics.
