It's being reported that ITV have replaced Adrian Chiles as its lead football anchor with immediate effect. 5 Live's Mark Pougatch will anchor its coverage of Chelsea's Champions League tie next month.
This comes after it was confirmed that Andy Townsend's contract will not be renewed at the end of the season.

I tend not to watch anything other than the match itself on ITV so it makes no difference to me whether the programme is presented by Adrian Chiles or Ant and Dec. However, the departure of Andy Townsend will be a blessed relief. Can he take Clive Tyldesley with him?

Does make you wonder whether there's a story behind the Chiles sacking. It's come completely out of the blue and he only signed a new 2 year contract after the World Cup. |

Matt Smith's departure is a strange one - he was OK. But I guess ITV has had so much criticism over its football coverage, they've finally started to listen and have decided to press the reset button and start again. Particularly timely if they end up getting the Premier League highlights from BBC, which many are predicting.

Reduces the number of West Midland accents regularly heard on national radio and television to zero.
Now, imagine there were no television presenters whose origin was the Indian Subcontinent. The broadcasters would quite rightly be accused of racism.
