It was amusing to see some people on the BBC website suggesting that England should have declared when their lead reached around 100. Should they have dared try to become the first side to win a Test Match in one day?

Instead, we should try and bat for the next two days and become the first team to win a test match by an innings and 1000 runs.

It's been a completely enthralling summer for England cricket fans, with barely a dull hour of play. But yesterday beat everything that came before. Truly astonishing. Very little work done in my office between 11.05am and 12.40pm.

So the Aussies take the match to a third day with just three wickets remaining, and needing another 90 runs to make England bat again.
Still even today was very enjoyable, as England's 4th seam bowler (Stokes) took 5-35. Whilst Australia's 4th seam bowler was dropped so their captain (Clarke) could hide batting at #5.
And how considerate of the England cricket team to think about supporters by allowing the match to go to a third day with three dropped catches, and two additional wickets ruled out because they were taken from overstepping the bowler's mark.

Now that the revitalised attacking England have won back The Ashes. Then it is time to show an excerpt from last night's The Last Leg and the Burning of Adam Hills' Prosthetic Foot:

Session-by-session:
DAY 2 Morning: Eng 117-5d, Aus 14-0 (Australia have their best session of the match, taking 5 wickets, but England still smash them around at just under a run a ball before a snap declaration by Cook. With a 1st innings lead of over 300, it has to be England's session) Afternoon: Aus 124-4 (So nearly a perfect session for Australia. An opening stand of 113 but then the wickets tumble quickly once again and any glimmer of hope the Aussies had is gone. England's session) Evening: Aus 103-3 (Australia plod on gamely but England turn the screw with 3 more wickets as Ben Stokes takes his turn to shine with the ball. It was over as a contest at lunch on day 1. The morning session on day 3 will see the coronation. England's session)
DAY 3 Morning: Aus 12-3ao (It takes England less than an hour to wrap up the series and regain the Ashes, with stumps flying everywhere. England's session)
MATCH TOTAL: ENGLAND 7-0 AUSTRALIA (8 sessions not required)
SERIES TOTAL: ENGLAND 25-14 AUSTRALIA (21 sessions not required)

Thanks of the continuing session-by-session updates. They are always a good read, even when it doesn't take much skill to determine the winner of each session!

Nice to see much of the Australian Cricket team at the Britannia Stadium this afternoon.
At least they have witnessed the away side winning a sporting event!
Still many would say it was appropriate they were watching Stoke City, as many of them have gone to Pot(ters) this summer.
