Channel 4's latest foreign drama is Deutschland '83. No prizes for guessing when and where it is set. It's a Cold war drama about an East German sent to spy in the West. The first episode yesterday was good enough for me to carry on watching. There's some great 80s music too, including frequent snatches of 99 Luftballons.
Anyone else watching?

Tried too but it was a bit too grim much prefer 'The Americans' same premise but with Russians if you havent seen it, it has great 80s music in it as well

Yes I really liked it, looking forward to the rest of the series. Enjoyed the soundtrack too.
It was advertising a load of other foreign dramas during the breaks. Think Channel 4 have made a number of boxsets available on All 4, some of them look really good, may be worth a go.

It makes a nice change from seeing an American or another westerner as the lead character. It led to a rather good scene where he is in the supermarket taking in the range and quantity of food on offer.

Yes but the central charcaters on 'The Americans' are the Russians, they are a KGB agents who make a family in US who were planted there in the 60s, and their children think they are just normal americans and now its 1981 in the height of the cold war, you do actually side with the Russians a lot of the time, seriously it is not what you would expect from a US network show.

Enjoyed it. Can All 4 only be watched on laptops etc, or can you get that on the tv as well? Some of those foreign dramas look worth a looksee.

I couldn't access All4 by the red button or any menu on Virgin Media. If I want to watch any of the programmes on my telly, I'll need to use the Apple TV box. There are certainly a few on there that might be worth trying.

With 39 episodes shown so far, that's a lot of catching up to do. I'll give it a go if I get the chance.

The sequel, Deutschland '86, haas finally arrived! No sign of when we will get to see it here but, apparently, Channel 4 has bought it. I just hope they show it all rather than shunting it on to All4.

I would guess that it would help. However, not having seen any of the second series, I can't say for sure! Better get on to All4 and start watching.
