Glad I found this site very useful and informative especially the charts section.
I post year end charts to Youtube and was a huge chart music fan from 1989 to 2005 when I reached the age when you suddenly go 'I don't get this new music anymore'.
I also was a hugeeeeeee fan of the itv chart show and have also posted lots of those on Youtube.

Hi, and welcome along, I still follow the charts, nice to stay current and up to date with what my 16 yo son is into, but there isn't enough variety in there any more Album chart is more reflective I feel.

Hi, and welcome along, I still follow the charts, nice to stay current and up to date with what my 16 yo son is into, but there isn't enough variety in there any more Album chart is more reflective I feel. I blame downloads as we went from the norm in the 80's with a steady chart to the sublime and ridiculous speed of the 90's and early 00's with 5 or 6 new entries in the top 10 to the very slow and static US style chart we have now, if only we could have come up with a way to have a steady chart again. I suppose now the record companies really run the show and it's a worldwide chart we were lucky to have had the 80's and 90s where we were so much more varied than the boring US R&B, Rock/grunge. Now the same songs chart in both countries and all the releases and charts are released simulatenously and barely any songs move. Downloads and mobile phones are the best thing for being able to access music it allowed people to access them easier which changed the way the charts worked and it has never really been the same since 2006.

Hi Steve - good to have you along! What type of music are you into? Mainstream I started listening to the charts in August 1989 and stopped when Gnarls Barkey was No.1 in 2006. I like 80's and 90's mostly I don't tend to vary into different styles but I can like a rock song or a dance song if it's good enough next to a good cheesy song. I stopped listening when the vocoder/autotune/rap took over and have slowly got back into it since this died away and the singers returned like George Ezra and Bruno Mars.

Sounds like you fit in very well here then - welcome! I hung on to an interest in chart music a bit longer, but streaming finally did for me last year. I'm not against it but it just isn't for me and I hate to see great tracks and artists go unrecognised because they aren't immediately streamed in large numbers. Like you, I like a bit of everything if it's good, but dance music and great (or cheesy) pop is my main interest, as well as singer songwriters. Top 3 artists are Tori Amos, Kate Bush and Divine Comedy, but they aren't really representative of my iPod contents....

I might have said this elsewhere but for me it was the mystery of the chart, that first chart in 1989 watching my favourite song climb from 28 to 14 then excitedly waiting 7 days to see if it went Top 10 on a Sunday afternoon.
Now it's all known in advance and daily updates.

I barely take any interest in the current charts anymore, which is hard to believe when it was the current charts that brought me here in the first place.

Thanks Tom hope you enjoy the videos, I found this site researching for 1982 as it's so difficult to find accurate charts. Working on re uploading 1983 at moment as a Top 100 and reworking 1986. Then maybe 1981 or 2004 after that.

I see you are into the football stuff we've got going here, do you support any particular team? I know we had a thread somewhere which listed everyone's supported team in the sport forum.
