It is an impossible situation at Arsenal, the best manager in Arsenal's history without question but for all the pretty football they have stagnated, with Man City and Chelsea dominating the top 4, Man U spending 300m a season and Spurs just getting everything right on the pitch competing with Liverpool for 5th place or lower was always coming, which brings me to a very smart mans definition of insanity
"doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results." - Albert Einstein
For 5 or 6 seasons now Arsenal have built and rebuilt a good team to watch with no backbone on the cheap that collapse every season, they are at best a 4th/5th place team that might win a cup every 3 year BUT could be so much more under a Simone or Pochetino, ofcourse they could be worse off if they go the Man U route of employing the wrong manager to replace a legend but that's the risk you take, nothing lasts forever and everything fades and dies
time to roll the dice and part on moderately good terms, thanks for your service and a position higher up if he wants that

Final game of the season:
Aston Villa 1 Brighton 1 Newcastle 3 Barnsley 0
Unbelievably Newcastle snatch the Championship title on the last day of the season as Brighton conceded a last minute goal. Well done to Newcastle but commiserations to Brighton who would have been worthy champions as they have been the best team in the Championship over the course of the season.

Thanks Robbie, good to see a decent Newcastle fan for a change, I'm standing by the fact that winners of that league, usually do not do as well over the next 5 seasons as the team that ended up 2nd, nor the play off winners. A blessing in disguise hopefully. My other half being a Swans fan quickly pointed out that his team who went up in 2011 as play-off winners, finished the highest out of the other two that went up the season after, while still in the Premier League today unlike the aforementioned other two that went up with them (QPR and Norwich). Southampton finished second behind Reading in 2012 and are still in the Prem, unlike Reading who went straight back down. WBA missed out on the 2011 Championship title in similar circumstances to us today, to the same team but never to date got relegated, while Newcastle have since then got another relegation and finished behind WBA in all seasons since apart from one. We ran out of steam after winning promotion, you guys didn't as you have better resources and is why you went up at the first time of asking. Usually watch True Geordie's channel on YouTube, but might not watch the next episode now.

Strangely, when you won your last three games (in a 5 game winning streak) and gained promotion, Newcastle went through a mini crisis and during the same time we lost two and drew one game. It seemed to spur us on and we ended up winning our last three games of the season while it has been the turn of Brighton to lose two and draw one.

The Sheffield Weds defeat you had being the most notable. Hope they go up, one of my fave away trips. To think Villa helped you to the title after all that nonsense they gave you when they sent you down in 2009.......

Blackburn are a little unlucky to go down with 51 points and a goal difference of minus 12. There can't be many teams who have gone down on goal difference with a figure like that.

I echo what @ladylea said Robbie. Newcastle fans do have a bit of a reputation for thinking their team should always be winning major trophies even though very few of them can remember the last time they actually won one. Realistically, I would have been more than happy with second place at the start of the season so I'm happy. It's ad to see a few whingers on a Seagulls Facebook group. I can't help feeling they will have more to moan about next season when Brighton haven't sealed their Champions League place by the end of February.

Sam Allardyce completely on the money with regards what should happen with diving. Key issues need addressing on the day during the match with video technology. Retrospective bans don't help the teams who've been cheated. As far as I'm concerned the FA are just rearranging the deckchairs on the Titanic...

So win a penalty and win a game, then get banned for three games and lose those games, what is gained? I agree about the possibility of using video technology, but we don't want to be using that on everything, or we will never actually have a game of football.

As Tottenham are "champions over 2 seasons" without having been champions in either of them, I decided to look back at what other teams would have been champions over 2 seasons without winning either.
I went back as far as 1960 and one team managed it 3 times.
Leeds: 1964-66 Leeds: 1969-71 Leeds: 1970-72 Liverpool: 1973-75 Ipswich 1980-82* Arsenal: 2014-16 Tottenham: 2015-17
the last of those with one game still to be played but they are guaranteed to be regardless of what happens.
* Ipswich did theirs when it switched from 2 points for a win to 3 points for a win. With the scoring in place at the time (2 points for a win the first season, 3 for a win the second), they got one point more than Liverpool. If you count 2 points for a win in both seasons they are also one point more. 3 points for a win and they are a lot more ahead (7 ahead) as Liverpool had a lot of draws in 1980-81
Leeds were runners up in all the seasons 1970, 71 and 72 and scored more points than any of the champions over any 2 combined seasons. And of course they would also be champions over 3 seasons without winning any of them. They were champions in 1969 and 1974.
Liverpool won the league in both 1973 and 1976 but not in 74 or 75 but did get more points than anyone else in those two seasons combined.
Arsenal got more points in 2015 when they came 3rd (75) than they did in 2016 when they came 2nd (71) but the total was one more than Manchester City who were also champions in neither season.

Congratulations to South Shields who have won the FA Vase by emphatically beating Cleethorpes 4-0. It continues a great run for north east teams who have won the competition in 8 of the last 9 seasons.

Just a shame about the floodlights incident against Morpeth...

Also, gutted I never got round to putting a bet on for the match as I really fancied 4-0 at 14/1...

Time for a quick review of Jose Mourinho's performance as Manchester United manager:-
2013-14 7th 64 pts David Moyes (1st season) - sacked 2014-15 4th 70 pts Louis Van Gaal (1st season) - retained 2015-16 5th 66 pts Louis Van Gaal (2nd season) - sacked 2016-17 6th 69 pts Jose Mourinho (1st season) - should be sacked
And a reminder of what has been happening at Chelsea:-
Aug-Dec 2015 16th 15 pts from 16 games Jose Mourinho - sacked Dec 2015-May 2016 10th 35 pts from 22 games Guus Hiddinck - temporary 2016-17 1st 93 pts Antonio Conte - champions
So, at both Chelsea and Manchester United Mourinho has massively underperformed in the past couple of years. In fact, his performance is much worse than Arsene Wenger. And that's before you factor in the enormous sums of money he's been given to squander.

South Shields dominated that game, and scored some late goals to add some gloss to it, following it was York v Macclesfield, another very good lower league game, very open, York won it 3-2 in the end, but are of course relegated to Conference/National North!

The trend of teams about that level to win the cup and get relegated is getting quite regular

I remember Darlo beating us in the FA Trophy, and then going out of existence months later, left a bitter taste.

Ex-Newcastle player Nile Ranger seems to have finally found his level, being jailed for 8 months for fraud. www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-40021308He had previously been charged, and tried in court, for an accusation of rape. He was found not guilty. He has also been arrested for posing with a gun, which later turned out to be a replica. In addition he has also failed a drugs test this year for snorting cocaine as well as taking MDMA. He's only 25! What an idiot. He's an example of someone who doesn't have a clue how to behave. He was a fairly decent player but he obviously has problems that get in the way of being able to sustain a playing career.

Man Utd seem to be on course to win the Europa Cup. They are 2-0 up with only a minute to go. As much as I don't like them as I've posted in the past, when it comes to Europe I'll always shout for the British teams.
