After four weeks at the top Frankie Goes To Hollywood give up the number one slot as Prince takes over with ‘When Doves Cry’ to grab his first retro-chart topper.




Alison Moyet holds at number two with ‘Love Resurrection’ as ‘Two Tribes’ slips to number three.


Tina Turner gets a third week at number four, unable to break into the Top 3 with ‘What’s Love Got To Do With It’.


It’s The Bluebells with ‘Young At Heart’ who’ll be most disappointed, they were mid-week leaders at one point but slipped away at the end to finish back at number five.


Highest new entry is from neil with ‘Hole In My Shoe’, in at number 22, with Ultravox landing the honour of highest climber as ‘Lament’ climbs 17 places to number 20.

The Thompson Twins complete a hat-trick of number ones, following earlier #1s this year for "Doctor Doctor" and "You Take Me Up". The chart has generally slowed down a little at this point.

Follwing on from "Stay With Me Tonight" we have a ballad from Jeffrey Osborne as the highest new entry. Doing well in the US chart at the moment, a song by Ray Parker Junior for a new film. He previously featured on a couple of hits in 1978 under the name of Raydio, and before that was a session musician, playing the guitar riff on Freda Payne's big hit "Band Of Gold". On this one though he is sounding a bit like Huey Lewis & The News (I Want A New Drug).

Billy Idol finally breaks into the UK top 40 as a solo artist. His hit "Hot In The City" from 1982 didn't quite manage that, and releases of White Wedding and Rebel Yell also failed to chart. Maybe now he's had a hit he'll re-release some of those older songs...

Michael Jackson has already recorded with a Beatle so how about a Rolling Stone this time? His other siblings also join in on the act this time.
