HAVEN COMBI RETRO-CHART FOR W/B 18th NOVEMBER 1984

All change at the top as Nik Kershaw takes over with ‘The Riddle’, to become our 20th number one of the year. Kershaw has now peaked at every position in the Top 3 with ‘Wouldn’t It Be Good’ reaching number 2 in February and ‘I Won’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me’ climbing to number 3 in June.




Taking over from Duran Duran by a slim 9 point margin, ‘The Riddle’ features in nine of the ten individual charts posted, hitting number one in Raliverpool and rubcale’s chart.


Not much change in the Top 5 as Duran Duran slip down to number two and Eurythmics hold steady at number 3.


This week’s highest new entry is from Tina Turner with ‘Private Dancer, in at number 16
.

Madonna gets a big 19 place climb to number 11 with ‘Like A Virgin’

I bought the Welcome To The Pleasuredome album, it must have been close to this time. Strange in parts. Disappointed about the version of Two Tribes on it. However the song above is just magic, and it certainly has stood the test of time, so much so that a cover version of it has even made #1 in the UK too.

Among the pile of entries there are a couple of silly ones, getting ready for the season. You'd expect it from Black Lace but even Paul McCartney has gone a bit festive on this occasion - actually it's a soundtrack song for some animinated short film.

We've had the War Song - now the Medal song. No idea why it was given this title. It doesn't go "Medals are stupid..." though.
Alison Moyet and Julian Lennon both leave the chart but replace themselves with new hits.
