HAVEN COMBI RETRO-CHART FOR W/B 25th NOVEMBER 1984
A second week at the top for Nik Kershaw with ‘The Riddle’ as he massively increases his lead. It tops three individual charts now as Thorney joins Raliverpool and rubcale in placing this as number one.
Murray Head’s ‘One Night In Bangkok’ moves up to number two, with Duran Duran continuing their gradual descent at number three.
Human League are back in the Top 5 with ‘Louise’ after their last single, ‘Life On Your Own’ stalled at, by their standards, a disappointing number 8.
‘The Power Of Love’ sees the return of Frankie Goes To Hollywood, this week’s highest new entry at number 8. If memory serves me correctly, next week on the Official Chart, they become the first act since Gerry and The Pacemakers to hit number one with their first three singles. They’re already two thirds of the way on the Retro-Chart too. Will ‘The Power Of Love’ enable them to match that record breaking hat-trick? An instant number one on Earl Purple’s chart this week sees that feat being achieved even earlier.
Still around after a huge 16 weeks (albeit over two separate chart runs) is Gimme All Your Lovin' by ZZ Top, which unfortunately never quite made it into the Top Ten. And this week’s biggest climber is from Kool and The Gang with ‘Fresh’, up a massive 23 places to number 14.
