HAVEN COMBI RETRO-CHART W/B 17th MARCH 1985
Madonna gets a third week at number one as Material Girl continues to expand its weekly points total. The race is a bit tighter this week though with Stephen ‘Tin Tin’ Duffy still at number two but closing the gap between the two songs.
Philip Bailey and Phil Collins are up a place to number three with Easy Lover but still quite a way off the top.
Paul Young is back in the Top 5 with Every Time You Go Away, up to number 4. This is his fifth song to make it to the Top 5 of the Retro Chart after Wherever I Lay My Hat (That’s My Home) (number 2 July 1983), Come Back And Stay (number 4 September 1983), Love Of The Common People (number 1 December 1983) and Everything Must Change (number 3 December 1984) Paul Young’s run of Retro-Chart success was interrupted by I’m Gonna Tear Your Playhouse Down, which could only climb to number 13 in October last year. It’s been a while since Paul Young had a chart-topper, will Every Time You Go Away be able to match his previous success?
Two other Retro-Chart favourites have also made their way back into the Top 10 this week. Alison Moyet gets her fourth consecutive Top 10 hit as That Old Devil Called Love climbs to number 6 and Nik Kershaw is up to number 8 with Wide Boy, becoming his fifth Top 10 song.
This week’s highest new entry is from Third World, in at number 19 with Now That We’ve Found Love.
