Ok RALiverpool has got me in the mood so lets kick of the top 100 of 1983
But first up honorary mention for the song that was shunted down to #101.
101 Sixty Eight Guns – The Alarm
The song that introduced most of us to The Alarm. Often regarded as the poor mans U2 or Big Country, they were a rather fine band that took a lot of stick. This reached #17 in the UK and just missed the Billboard Hot 100 peaking at #106. Anyway this just shows the quality of this year if a song this good misses the top 100

100 The Walk – The Cure
Now a Cure song I didn't know at the time, I never really discovered this song until I heard it on the All Mixed Up compilation and since has become one of my favourites. This was their first top 20 hit reaching #12 in the UK.

99 Radio Free Europe - R.E.M.
First Top 100 year end song for R.E.M, again I didn't know this at the time . I discovered this through the 'Eponymous' compilation album. This was their debut single in 1981 but eas re-issued in 1983 when they signed to IRS and gave them their first hot 100 hit reaching #78 and then it was included on the 'Murmur' album.

98 Genetic Engineering – Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark
First single taken from their 4th album 'Dazzle Ships' , not their greatest single or album by any stretch but still plenty good to make the top 100 here. The single reached #20 in the UK.

97 Na Na Hey Hey (Kiss Him Goodbye) – Bananarama
1983 is a very strong year for Bananarama with three really good singles. First up is the cover of the track by Steam which was a US number one in 1969. This reached #5 in the UK and just missed in the US reaching #101.

96 Running With The Night – Lionel Richie
This is probably my favourite Lionel Richie song. It has just amazing production and it so atmospheric and is just so 80s!!! Lionel Richie is great when he is a bit more edgy he just doesn't do it enough. This reached #9 in UK and #7 in Us taken from the classic 'Can't Slow Down' album.

95 Break My Stride – Matthew Wilder
Now this is a funny one, this was one of these songs that I have always known but had no idea who did it or what the singer even looked like. It wasn't until we started doing these retro charts and watching classic TOTP that I finally found out who he was. He looks the complete opposite of what a reggae star should look like but who cares this song is awesome. I know Neil is a big fan of this. This reached #4 in the UK and #5 in the US.

94 Stand Back - Stevie Nicks
I didn't know this song at the time either gawd how bad was I? It wasn't until the dance cover by Linus Loves that I discovered this brilliant track. Of course I have always loved Stevie Nicks and how much does she and Ellie Goulding look alike in this video. This #5 in the US.

93 Who's That Girl - Eurythmics
Yes this is probably to low for most Haveners but you have to realise I was never much of a fan. Another huge hit for them though reaching #3 in the Uk and #21 in the US.

92 Big Log – Robert Plant
Just made a change, the song that was here should be at least 10 places higher. Now in 1983 I didn't really know who Led Zeppelin where and this was when I became aware of them, apart this track I learned they were the 'Stairway to Heaven' band. This song reminds me of late night rock TV on ITV. Do any of you remember they used to have a heavy rock video show on about 1am. This reached #11 in the Uk and #20 in the US.

91 Red Red Wine - UB40
Probably their most famous song and a massive worldwide hit reaching #1 in US and UK.

90 That's All - Genesis
First appearance for Genesis in 1983, this was the second single from the album 'Genesis', the first will be much higher. This reached #6 in US and #16 in UK.

89 Come Back and Stay – Paul Young
My sister was a huge Paul young fan so his music was always around the house, some songs I loved others left me a bit cold. This is definitely one of his better ones. This reached #4 in UK and #22 in US.

88 Dear Prudence – Siouxsie and the Banshees
The quality in this year is just stupid most of these could be top 40 in the last couple of years. This was their biggest hit a cover of The Beatles track of course but they make it very much their own. It reached #3 in the UK.

87 Loch Lomond – Runrig
I'm sorry you can't be a proper Scot without including this band and probably this song somewhere. I was born in Skye and my dad went to school with them so they have always been in my life. I even met my first official girlfriend at a Runrig gig that I sneaked into. This was of course a huge selling in Scotland but it did eventually chart in the main chart as well. This release only reached #86 but at this point it was their debut single. It will finally be the hit it deserves when it reaches #9 in 2007. I will use this clip as this was just two years after when I saw them.

86 Club Tropicana – Wham!
From the sublime to the slightly ridiculous. I was on holiday south of France this year and the next two songs were everywhere. You could not walk past a bar without hearing this. This is probably a bit low down as it is possibly my favourite Wham song its just such a big year as i have already said. This reached #4 in the UK.

85 Dolce Vita – Ryan Paris
ohh the other Summer holiday tune of that year. I maybe weird but this songs still gives me chills. I just love the sound its just something special. Terrible video yes but those synths and that chorus, just brings me back. Funny thing is Radio 2 play this quite often still, it always seems to be in the middle of Pop Master, no bad thing that. It was a huge worldwide hit and reached #5 in the UK.

84 Uptown Girl - Billy Joel
Now I should have really liked this song at the time but I kinda didn't. I found the video super annoying and it was so overplayed. Now 35 years later I can enjoy it much more even after the Westlife travesty. It was a huge hit though Uk number one and US #3.

83 Baby Jane - Rod Stewart
Another big song from Rod in my favourite era of his. This was a his last Uk number one and it also reached #14 in the US.

82 This Is The Day – The The
There are two or three different versions of this and Vevo have the worst one, got the right one now. Another single taken from 'Soul Mining' but wasn't the hit it deserved only reaching #71 although a re-recorded version will reach #17 in 1993.
