It's a first week on top for Amen Corner with their fab UK chart-topper knocking off a future UK chart-topper, with both holding off the highest new entry from another future UK chart-topper: Peter Sarstedt and his Frenchified folk classic Where Do You Go To (My Lovely)? I knew every word to the song, being as I loved it, and had the words cut out of Weekend magazine along with most big hits of 1969 to read, singalong to and learn. Just because I can, I'm going to say of this chart I've seen the following in concert: Andy Fairweather-Low, Tommy Roe, Peter Sarstedt, The Zombies & Colin Blunstone, The Bee Gees, Fleetwood Mac, Roy Wood, Peter Noone, The Manfreds & Paul Jones, Glen Campbell, Dionne Warwick, The Rolling Stones, Dave Edmunds, Mary Wilson, Paul Simon, Art Garfunkel, Marv Johnson, The Temptations, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, The Chi-Lites, Dave Dee Dozy Beaky Mick & Tich...so I'm pretty loyal all in all and no wonder my hearing in one ear is damaged a bit.

The Zombies are up to 4 as Colin Blunstone disguises himself badly in the UK for a cover of his own classic with Rod Argent, She's Not There, a future Santana hit as well (who I've also seen in concert), in at 23. Second highest entry is the 1944 song covered by Esther Phillips, I love her voice, have never heard this track before (a previous hit for Glen Campbell & future Ronnie Milsap US smash) but it's so classy she enters at 19 a full 6 years ahead of her UK hit update of a similarly fab classic song What A Diffrence A Day Makes. Deano is in too at 20 with his laidback vocal cover of a previous Glen Campbell hit, Gentle On My Mind, as featured no doubt on his entertaining variety show of the time - that'll be both Dean and Glen.

The Five Stairsteps get yet another entry, not bad for a band I'd never heard of until a year ago - think a black soulful Cowsills, as in 5 kids from the same family - while The Hump keeps the ballads coming too. Stevie Wonder turns 18 and returns with another goodie, and The Tempts also return with a marathon social soulfunk effort just as solo Temptation David Ruffin debuts 7 years ahead of his UK debut with the fab Walk Away With Love. The Grass Roots cover Marmalade, Paul Jones covers Hair classic Aquarius, Carla Thomas returns, The Delfonics return, Johnny Nash gets his You Got Soul B-side sneaking in, Johnny Johnson gets top billing with the Bandwagon, and Badfinger debut. Well, called The Iveys, on Apple, I have the album, but this was the flop single.

In my charts of the time Donald Peers is at 3, and doesn't chart at all in 2019, The Move top my charts, and a lot of tracks are about the same position, and some aren't!
