I was watching the National League playoffs last night Boreham Wood v Halifax, must been a very long time since Halifax were in the Football League, and sadly despite taking the lead, they lost 2-1, to a team who's ground capacity is 4500, when the entrance to the FL it has to be 5000, so I assume they are doing some work, like Harrogate have been doing to get it up to FL standard, if they beat Harrogate and then the winners of County/Yeovil/Barnet. Also national league north and south playoffs, and I'm hoping York get back into the Conference where they deserve to be, and where they'll have a new ground (finally) next season. Slough 0-3 Dartford today in National League South. Wouldn't expect Slough to have won the playoffs but couldn't help wondering how the lack of home support may have had an impact as thought they'd do a lot better than that. And as others have said, congratulations on Leeds promotion and hope Brentford go up too.

Some good news today: my old works 5-a-side team that I played in goal for a few times before I left is retiring my number.

What an end to the Championship season, how did Forest stuff it up so badly? Hilarious! Who from Brentford, Fulham, Cardiff or Swansea will get into the Prem? And Wigan relegated after the -12 points deduction, very harsh on them, if they win the appeal, do Barnsley then appeal about that?

Hard to see Brentford recovering after blowing several chances to go up automatically. I have a feeling it'll be one of the Welsh clubs.

Come on Harrogate (in the battle of the tiny grounds and never been in the FL)

National League playoff finals:
NATIONAL LEAGUE Harrogate Town v Notts County (Sat 2 Aug)
NORTH Boston United v Altrincham (Fri 1 Aug)
SOUTH Weymouth v Dartford (Fri 1 Aug)
The four North/South finalists have all been in the Conference/National League before (though it's 31 years since Weymouth were there) so King's Lynn Town will be the only debutants next season.

When Sheffield Utd had a perfectly good goal against Aston Villa ruled out because the goal-line technology failed, much was said about how it could cost Sheff Utd. I was more concerned that the extra point could send another team down instead of Villa. I was right

The weird thing about the goaline technology failure was at the time they said the watch buzzed at half time to indicate the goal etc etc but it was too late, it was the system that failed
Then after the game they made up the excuse all 8 or 9 cameras were blocked and it missed the goal... which is it? it cant be both, it cant both miss the goal due to the cameras being blocked and send the ref a delayed signal that the ball went over the line at half time
There have been instances where VAR has been unplugged in India because someone wanted to charge their phone, if Bournemouth can prove incompetence was the cause of the goaline technology not working that day rather than an unavoidable 1 in 5000 chance freak technology failure we might not hear the last of this
Sad for Bournemouth but they never did quite enough to deserve to stay up

A far less thrilling final day than in the Championship.
And all the wrong outcomes. Man Utd not Leicester in the Champions League. Tottenham not Wolves in the Europa League. Villa not Bournemouth staying up.
It will be a season which lives long in the memory of football fans, because it was so unusual, but it wasn't a classic one.

Brentford 3 Swansea 1
Well done Brentford, through to the Championship Play-Off Final in what was the last ever game to be played at Griffin Park.

Breaking news: "A Saudi Arabian-backed consortium has pulled out of a bid to buy Newcastle United." www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/53598846It looks like they ran out of patience waiting for approval to take over the club. The Premier League had said on Tuesday they were still awaiting clarification of who would actually be the person in charge and had yet to get an answer. So Mike Ashley is still in charge of a club he doesn't want to own and which the fans don't want him to own. I have to admit to being uneasy at the thought of the Crown Prince of a country known for its human rights abuses being in charge of the club. However there's not many people who have the individual wealth to buy a football club and to provide substantial investment. So it's basically back to sqaure one.

Given that said Crown Prince is implicated in the murder of a journalist, the takeover should have been blocked months ago.

While everyone wants Ashley out this certainly isn't the way. I'm only annoyed it took so long to resolve and left everyone involved sitting around waiting for months.

Once again, the FA have managed to side-step an important issue by prevaricating for ages.
If they'd rejected Newcastle's proposed new owners, they'd have set themselves an awkward precedent. After all, Russia and China, to pick just two countries, aren't exactly devoid of human rights issues, and you don't become a billionaire in Russia or China without toadying up to the government, paying massive bribes, and indulging in other illegal activities. And laundered Russian and Chinese money is all over the Premier League.
If they'd said "yes", then any pretence of "black lives matter", and similar campaigns supporting equality and human decency would be shown to be the bandwagon-hopping sham they really are, as far as the money-is-the-only-thing-that-matters FA is concerned.

Glad you cursed them I hope now it's Brentford as they've never been in the Premier League, although I dont mind Fulham either, remember watching a game of theirs with my dad and Sam, and the bloke say behind us was so posh, his son was called Tristan!!!

relegated from the Championship this season:-
Charlton, Wigan & Hull
OR
Charlton, Barnsley & Hull if Wigan win their appeal
OR
Wigan, Hull & Sheffield Wednesday if Charlton win their appeal
OR
Charlton, Hull & Sheffield Wednesday if Wigan and Charlton win their appeals
Shambles. Absolute shambles.
