HAVEN COMBI RETRO-CHART W/B 19th JULY 1987
For the first time in almost three years we have a record that spends five weeks at the top of the Retro-Chart. Still scoring well over 200 points for the fourth week running, It’s A Sin becomes only the seventh record to spend such an extended period of time at the top. The Pet Shop Boys are in good company, the other five-week chart-toppers include:
Duran Duran – Save A Prayer
Tears For Fears – Mad World
Mike Oldfield – Moonlight Shadow
Nena – 99 Red Balloons
Duran Duran – The Reflex
and, most recently, Giorgio Moroder and Philip Oakey – Together In Electric Dreams.
Currently the 30th biggest song of all time on the 80s Retro-Chart, and still just about appearing on every individual chart, will It’s A Sin become the first song to ever manage six weeks at the top?
Heart break records of their own this week as they become the first act to spend four weeks at number two with Alone, the number one that never was.
In the face of such stiff competition, Madonna can only manage to move Who’s That Girl up two places to number three, as she seeks to become the only act on the Retro-Chart to have achieved eight number one singles.
Other activity within the Top Five sees A-Ha and Black both dip a place as they move to accommodate the rise of Who’s That Girl. Fleetwood Mac make a quick return to the Top Five as they follow up the number two success of Big Love with Seven Wonders, their latest release from Tango In The Night.
Biggest climb this week is from Los Lobos as La Bamba jumps 23 places to number 11.
Highest of nine new entries is from Jennifer Warnes as First We Take Manhattan enters at number 22.
And here’s this week’s Retro Chart in full….
