Patience & Prudence finished 21st in my top artists of the year but they are still #2 in the final chart. 20 - Georgia GibbsJust 2 hits, Kiss Me Another and Happiness Street 19 - Patti PageA big hit with Allegheny Moon and one smaller hit. 18 - Doris DayThe only artist to get into my top 20 artists of the year who only had one charting single in 1956. 17 - Frank SinatraOne I would have expected to finish higher. He had 3 hits in 1956. 16 - Four LadsAlso had 3 hits in 1956, the biggest being "Standing On The Corner". 15 - Little RichardOne of the rock & roll icons especially for black singers, but one of his contemporaries has finished a lot higher than him. Still he had a good year.

9 Platters6 hits in 1956 with "The Great Pretender" as the biggest. 8 Johnnie RayTwo number 2 hits and one smaller hit, "Just Walkin' In The Rain" the bigger. 7 Anne Shelton2 hits and both number ones. She was #1 in the first chart of 1956 so would be higher if I counted 1955 weeks (and did consider doing that). Arrivederci Darling was the bigger hit but Lay Down Your Arms finished slightly higher in the chart of 1956 due to the former having charted a couple of weeks in 1955. 6 Guy MitchellAlso had two hits and both of them number ones. Still in the last chart of 1956 but has dropped out of the top 10. Singing The Blues was the bigger of his two number ones.

5: Perry ComoHe had 4 hits in 1956, the biggest was "Hot Diggity (Dog Ziggity Boom)" which was just above "More" in the chart of the year. 4: Fats DominoHe also had 4 hits in 1956, not surprisingly the biggest was Blueberry Hill which topped the chart. 3: Teresa BrewerThe most successful female singer of the year, 4 hits and finishing the year with her biggest, a number one for "Mutual Admiration Society" although "A Tear Fell" was a much bigger hit in the UK. One of her other big hits of the year "Bo Weevil" was a cover of Fats Domino so she partly has him to thank for her success.

2 Bill Haley & His CometsConsidered by many as the founders of Rock N Roll, although I don't know if they ever planned to be, they sound more like a swing band to me, but are self-contained in that they as band played their own instruments and even wrote song of their own songs (Rudy's Rock was written by them). Rock Around The Clock was #1 in my chart in 1955 in the last few weeks where I compiled pseudo-charts. Their biggest hit in 1956 was "See You Later Alligator" which is actually a cover. They had more 7 hits in 1956 including Rock Around The Clock still in the chart). That is more than any other artist other than the one who finished first. And is a lot more Bill Haley songs than most people know. (Prior to doing this I only knew 3, Shake Rattle & Roll which was an earlier hit, Rock Around The Clock and See You Later Alligator). 1 Elvis Presley Well no real surprise here, I chose 1956 as the year to start primarily because of Elvis. 8 hits, two number ones, the biggest being "Heartbreak Hotel" which stayed on top for 6 weeks. Also reached number one with "Don't Be Cruel" for 4 weeks, number 2 with "Hound Dog" and "Love Me Tender" and number 3 with "I Don't Care If The Sun Don't Shine". 3 smaller hits for 8 in total.

I think Anne Shelton's version of Arrivederci Darling is superior and I generally only chart one version. As that entered my chart on 24 December 1955 you probably count it in that year. (It may have entered the UK chart a bit earlier, I took a number of songs and spread them over the weeks in 1955, not necessarily when they entered but in chronological order. So that one was listed as 24 December).
Barbara Lyon - Letter To A Soldier was one of the 2 songs of 1956 not on Spotify (the other being Carousel Waltz by Ray Martin).
Teresa Brewer had a #2 hit in 1957 with "Nora Malone", but of course her biggest song "Music Music Music" was way back in 1950.
