Who were you favourite bands or acts that didn't make it to 2020? Was there anyone you tipped to be huge and the split just as the momentum was building, or was their a group that you actually cried when they split??
For me it was all about two bands We Are The Ocean and Mallory Knox.
The two bands have a lot in common, they were both UK based alternative rock bands and were supported by Radio 1 in the early 10s when rock was a dirty word but some how there was enough Twitter and fan following to keep these bands being readded to the playlists even though they never had any hit singles. They also both suffered a similar fate, they lost what made them special.
We Are The Ocean from Essex had a very charismatic frontman Liam Cromby but he wasn't what made the band special, it was the deep bass tones of Dan Brown who was the original singer when they were a heavier band but stepped out of the limelight as joint vocalist at first and was still amazing in that role, making their big radio hits 'Waiting Room' and 'Runaway' stand out on the radio.
Then he quit that role and became their manager. WATO then made a new record, they cleaned the rough edges and and although it wasn't as unique as the debut, they had a blinder of a single called 'Good For You', all over Radio 1, console games and even on Sunday Brunch but it didn't even go top 100. What else could they do, they split soon after.
Mallory Knox from Cambridge were possibly my favourite new band of the 10s, they had an even better vocalist Mikey Chapman, who had a massive range rivalling Matt Bellamy. They released three brilliant albums full of anthems include the massive radio hits 'Lighthouse';. 'Shout At The Moon' and 'Ghost In The Mirror'.
Where did all the emo fans go why did they stop buying music in quantities to give these bands hits I don't know. Mikey had been struggling with his mental health and quit the band and then bassist Sam Douglas stepped up, they made another record, and the first single was good but they weren't the same, fans deserted them and the band split after the album flopped.

One Direction and JLS for me.
More seriously, the biggest band to call time was surely REM. Although much of their 00s stuff is pretty average, they'd still produce the odd brilliant track from time to time.
