Any Dune fans about? Or just anyone looking forward to this movie?
Here's the (epic af) trailer for anyone who's curious.

Just from the trailer it looks like it's going to be a faithful adaptation of the book, and I for one am completely stoked. Only concern I have is that Jessica doesn't seem to be in the trailer all that much, whereas in the book she has almost as much focus as Paul - seeing things from her point of view is essential to much of the story, so hopefully it's just a marketing ploy to keep Timothee front and centre in the promo.
Either way, the cast is formidable and Denis Villeneuve looks to be demanding a lot of respect for this one (from what we've seen so far).

Is that the one where Sting rides a giant worm across a desert in the original movie ha, I have never seen it but would be interested in the remake because i hear the original film was an abomination compared to the book

I'm excited because the original adaptation was intriguing if flawed, but I love everything Denis Villeneuve does and Chalamet is such a talent!

These are the sort of films that should be remade; Good concepts or ideas that were flawed in some way in their original releases that can be made to reach more of their potential with a new approach

I haven't read the book The film looks awesome. To those who have read the book, do you think I ought to before seeing this? The book is an all time classic, easily the best and most accessible sci-fi novel. It’s world building on an epic scale (Lord of the Rings, A Song of Ice and Fire) but manages it without being such a behemoth book. That being said, it seems like the film is going to do it justice even without reading.

I don’t agree from about 10 to 18 I was huge into reading sci-fi and fantasy all eras right back to the 19th century stuff but mostly 60s and 70s and I just never got Dune. I read the first book can’t remember if I finished it but I had zero interest in reading any others. The 80s movie was mostly a bore fest so to me it matched the book pretty well. I have always wanted to be wrong and maybe I should reread it now but let’s say I am not hopeful no matter how amazing this film looks , I still think I’m going to find it dull.

I was always much more about fantasy than sci-fi so I actually haven't read all that many actual sci-fi books!
I will add Dune to my list though I have recently acquired about 10+ new books for my birthday so may take a while to get there...

Almost like people might like different things innit? I've never tried to read the "Dune" books, but this version makes me more interested in doing so than the original did.

I seem to remember a TV series 15 or so years ago that followed the book quite well. I'll definitely watch this, though I feel I know the story inside out anyway.

Happy to confirm this was just as epic as it should have been. Can easily call this the best fantasy/sci-fi adaptation since the Lord of the Rings trilogy. And utterly faithful to the source material (I can only think of two or three prominent scenes from the books that were omitted from the movie).
Many are calling this the 'set-up' movie for the inevitable 'Part 2' but somehow it still manages to pack in the action and thrill.
I do somewhat feel sorry for non-book readers who I think will struggle to understand the politics and the motivations behind some of the factions (such as the Bene Gesserit), but I guess that's something that's always going to be there with adaptations. After all, I'd wager 95% of LOTR fans just think Gandalf is a wizard, and wizards live a very long time - the film doesn't really go too much into the fact that's he's essentially a Demi-God.
But yes, definitely worth a watch for anyone who's into sci-fi and/or fantasy.
