It's hard enough to find a good song from the 2000s, let alone a good cover. It's far too soon to have a canon that people can cover - and judging by the diminishing returns in recent years, there may never be one.
If there were to be a bonus round I'd suggest parody or novelty.

I can think of one good cover of a 2000s song - and it's not on youtube.
Doing a quick google of recent cover versions that are highly rated, there are about 6 that are covers of songs from the 2000s. And I wouldn't give you a thankyou for any of them. Everyone looks further back for songs to cover.

I was going to do one but then thought 13 rounds might be too many. If people really want one though, I will happily add it on the end. Replace Mash-up round on 2000s covers. There will be no removing rounds. A 2000's or 21st century round would be Round 13 at the end. Also, you signed up for Covervision, not Cover Idol, so the rounds shouldn't matter to you anyway.

Oh, and I'd like to add some clarification (and will add it to the original post) as I've had at least one lot of songs in where the decades rounds have been misunderstood.
The ORIGINAL must be from the decade in question, but the cover does not have to be!
So a song originally released in 1973 and covered in 1985 belongs in the 70's round, not the 80's one.
I apologise that that wasn't more clear.

Question on the Mashups round - what defines a 'bootleg mashup'?

my songs are in
I took 'bootleg mashup' to mean an unofficial, unreleased mashup made by some joe blogs that borders on copyright infringement
"Bootleg,In simple terms, a bootleg is an unofficial mashup or remix. The original copyright owners do not authorize it"
So a Fatboy Slim song that mixes several songs together that's been released isn't a bootleg mashup
but DJ Techno Shizz from Dagenham mashing Spice Girls with Metallica in his own living room and uploading it to youtube is a bootleg mashup

Okay that's great, because there are far more of those kinds of mashups around

I would be able to provide a good cover of a 2000s song, but you probably wouldn't know either the original nor the cover.

I guess I'll submit my answers early enough that if some of them are outside the rules Roo. will correct me and make me send alternatives.

I'm not sure there's enough examples of those to fill a round, but their quality would make it unfair to go up against the unofficial ones.

Okay.
I explained where you went wrong, and offered to swap some songs round so that they were in the right categories, but if it's too much for you then that's fine.
I hope you will still vote.

There's lots to think about, but I'd hardly say it's too complicate. If anything I'd say it's more fun.

I really don't get how this is any more complicated than any previous games we've had. Most of the rounds are self-explanatory - and there's always Google and YouTube for the rounds where you can't think of any songs.
My only concern is that my rock cover may not be 'hard rock' enough, but I'm sure I can find something to fit the bill if not.

Haven has something for everyone. That doesn't mean everything has to appeal to everyone.
It is fine that some of our events require some head scratching and research, whilst others just require a quick look at someone's greatest hits album. One of the aspects I like of Haven Idol, Haven Factor and Haven Time Machine is that the hosts rotate, and have the freedom to tweak the format and rules to keep things fresh. Long may that continue.
There should be no stigma attached to someone opting out of a competition, for any reason. But nor should anyone throw their toys out of the pram because the host has chosen to go down a different route from the one they were hoping for. For every complaint, there will be twice as many plaudits. For what it's worth, I'm enjoying the challenge that some of these rounds have presented.

I'll have to have a think and see if I can come up with a good entry for all these rounds!
