Interesting as to whether Corey Pavin will pick Woods.
Has he really been that much use to the US teamsa in past matches - I don't think he is much of a team player.
Maybe Pavin will be pressured into it.
Ther has been some speculation that Montgomery might pick Bernhard Lager but with quite a few big European names now just missing the automatic spots it doesn't look likely.

According to Commenee we should have got medals in the men's 4x100m, Sharmon in the 110m hurdles and the men's 4x400m should have got gold.

Ouch!
Sound familiar, AdyM can't win the big point again as he loses to Sam Querry 5-7 7-6 6-2 in the final at Los Angeles after having match point.

I admire Lisa Dobriskey's honesty when she said she wasn't good enough on the night but she was badly hampered at least three times on the final lap by the Turkish woman who ran like a confused daddy-long-legs. Maybe if Lisa had been more patient and not moved wide so soon she might've got a run down the inside like the Spaniard did. Actually this worries me. Whenever the she got boxed in on the back straight my hubby and I looked and one another and groaned "not again." Remember her first big international when she finished 4th full of running after being boxed on the kerb? Alison Curbishley was enthusing that she ran a great race tactically and she will learn from it but will she? If you run great for 99% of the race but the 1% you don't that costs you to me means you blew it. Lord Coe in his very polite way pointed out that she being looking at the screen and not down she could have seen the Turk coming and moved up. Had she not got boxed and had to move out and break her stride she would surely have medalled? She hasn't learnt from before so the fact that she is trying to brush it off " as one of those days" a la Tim Henman hardly suggests she will again. The odds are well against getting a run on the inside.

^ yes the GB men should have won gold but the Russian's used the hurly burly of the relay to great strategic effect. Good for the women to clinch bronze and the russian's weren't that far ahead. With Ohurogu and a fitter Nicola Sanders we could be much closer esp now that Shakes Drayton is rising so fast. Lee McConnell is very dependable and would hold her ground if she was handed the baton in 1st place or close to 1st. The Russian's lead was well established after 1 leg! Relatively speaking given the fitness of Sanders and form of McConnell this year, the women taking the bronze in the 4x400m was the best British performance of the night. If she can avoid injury Shakes Drayton could be a MAJOR star.

He didn't blame his leg at all. He suggested he could have done better in his leg but it's the third leg that lost it for us. 46.3 on a rolling start is completely pathetic and it's a time the best juniors could surpass !!!! If Dai Greene had of run that leg they'd have won gold. Although I wasn't fully listening I heard Johnson criticising Bingham too. Relatively speaking he ran a worse leg than Tobin. Tobin's leg was almost like a boxing match and was the main reason for his lsow time. You can sy that he should have gotten out of it but if Bingham had run to his potential then he would have been well ahead.

BBC Sports Personality of the Year will be interesting. How many athletes will make the final list? After last year if the same thing happens again (perhaps with Rooney?) it might render it pointless. Whilst I didn't agree with Giggs winning last year, I could understand the reasoning behind it and that was his career achievements. There won't be a footballer anywhere near the shortlist this year. It's difficult to judge some of the performances with it only being the European Championships but I would say Idowu and Ennis are both worthy of inclusion, given their events were effectively unofficial world championships. Mo Farah could make it in as well. Possible other shortlist contenders: Amy Williams, Phil Taylor, Andy Murray, Graeme McDowell, Mark Cavendish, Lewis Hamilton. The England cricket team looks nailed on for the team award again. Can't see AndyM on the list unless he wins the US Open - but you've left out the current bookies' favourite - Tony McCoy. I was shocked at first when I heard that but on reflection it makes sense.

Glad Jessica made it - Ihad a feeling she wouldn't.
Don't see many medals on the last day - maybe men's 4x400m (chance of gold) , the women don't seem strong enough for their relay.
Without getting the Forum sued for libel I'll just say Lisa Dobriskey can only hope for Silver at best.
So many great performances it's hard to pick the best.

Hope things haven't turned for the Brits.
Started with Baddeley who was well fancied to win the Gold. Then both sprint relay teams made a pig's dinner and failed to qualify for the final.
Jessica Ennis is on a knife edge.
The men's 4 x400 relay team looled good though and the women were surprisngly good in qualifying for the final.

The medals keep coming for Team GB: So far another silver in the 200m for Christian Malcolm; an unexpected Gold in the mens 110m hurdles for Andy Turner. And after her last throw in the shot putt Jessica Ennis should be nailed on for Gold bar disaster tomorrow. We still have real medal chances to come tonight in the two middle distance finals in the Men's 1500m & Women's 800m; and an outside chance in the Men's 400m final. Malcolm was so close to the gold - heartbreaking. Jessica Ennis is in real danger of not winning the gold - the Russian World Champion is only 110 points behind and has a great second day. I have a bad feeling............................

Very impressed with Idowu especially the manner in which he nailediit - I thought he might only get the silver.
Jess Ennis leading after the hurdles but worryingly her time was slightly off although it was in to a headwind.
But the sivle medalist from the Worlds ran a PB - the commentators don't seem to have picked up on this.

Coming second in what was nothing more than the quality of a B race isn't much to shout about.
Anyoen know why Nicola Sanders is listed for the relay but not the individuals? Only Lee McConnell ran the 400m. If Nicola is fit to run the relay her time would surely have been enough to make the individual final.

Grerat start for GB - I really thought Thompson had blown his chance of silver and he was going to go backwards but he did great to come through and hold on.
Let's hope this kickstarts a rush of medals for us.

Are those European times? I think it might be an hour earlier here as I have it earmarked to turn on at 20:00 for the men's 10000m.

Personally, I wouldn't have Chambers anywhere near the team and why the h*ll are they giving that perpetual underachiever Lewis-Francis another chance?
If Jessica Ennis is anywhere near good from she should bring back the gold but Idowu could go either way.
On paper the two Brits are the fastest in tomight's 10,000m but can they perform in Championship race conditions?

Doesn't seem to be any interest in golf here so won't open another thread but the British Open was such a bore today with the South African guy out in front for the whole round.
As sonn as Casey lipped out for a birdie on the 1st you somehow knew it was all over.

So pleased Nadal won. Hope he wins the US open to win a career slam. Much earlier than "the best ever" Roger. Nadal at 24 is the best mens player ever. I suppose it's very difficult to compare players of different eras - you can really only judge what they do in their own. Come back on Nadal whenever he wins the Grand Slam a la Rod Laver in 1969. Nadal has yet to win the US Open (hardcourt) which will be his hardest task. I suspect the answer would probably be yes but would Nadal actually be a Wimbledon champion if they hadn't messed about with the grass making the courts harder so that the ball bounces higher?
