Boy Meets Girl couldn’t get anyone to take Waiting For A Star To Fall so decided to sing it themselves! This spent two weeks at number two at the start of the year. Boy Meets Girl reached #4 in my chart and got 68 points, but they were all in 1988. That would move it up to 849 points so we'll see where that would have put it in this year's table.
I don't know who else charted it in 1988.

Subsequent hit, Sit and Wait, from his Feeling Free album entered the weekly chart towards the end of the year. I never understood why Sydney Youngblood didn’t have a longer career in pop, I really enjoyed his album at the time and thought his voice was great. I don't know who else charted it in 1988. It scored well in 1988, I hadn't realised how many points it picked up in 1988 - 506. A combined points total of 1,291 would have seen it end up as the sixth biggest song of the year.

Retro-Chart run: 33-35-21- 3-4-5-7-10-13-35-X(4 weeks)-40 UK Peak: 3 US Peak: 1 Choreographer for the stars, Paula decided to give this singing thing a go for herself in 1988, with spectacular results. The Forever Your Girl spawned four US chart-toppers. In the UK, Straight Up was Paula’s first big hit, we took this to number three on the Retro-Chart in March, matching the achievement on the Official chart. Buffalo Stance picked up points from everyone, we loved it. At its peak, it generated a weekly score of 231 – a record for a solo artist, a debut single and only exceeded by It’s A Sin by the Pet Shop Boys. If Buffalo Stance’s points that were awarded in 1988 were combined with its 1989 tally, it would have ended up the second biggest song of the year. She already had a number one to her name with A New England hitting the top for three weeks in 1985 and came close to repeating this in 1987 alongside the Pogues with Fairytale of New York, which spent three weeks at number two behind Always On My Mind by the Pet Shop Boys.
