4 We All Stand Together - Paul McCartney
Oh dear after what I got for 'Pipes of Peace' will I get away with this. I think I'm safe. There is absolutely nothing in this a 13 year old would like and now I am way older nothing has changed. Always hated Rupert as well.

2 Do the Conga - Black Lace
What is worse than Superman or even Agadoo, thats right the f*cking Conga!! The low point of every night in a holiday camp, resort or any dodgy place your parents took you . And we really needed Black Lace encouraging this practice with a new song!!

MY WORST SONG OF 1984
Gary Glitter - Dance Me Up
Sorry can only last a few seconds with that, the only song on the whole 1984 list that I can't play much off, thats how good 1984 is, even the bad songs are bareable mostly. Usually I have an idea what will be near the top but I never saw this coming and I never want to hear it again.

Once I get to 1989 that will get more like 60% then I think we will see more common ground. Minogue, Donovan and other SAW acts?

1985 is going to be a problem just went through both the US & Uk and only got 60 songs in my longlist. Might have to make this a top 30.
So out of 500ish songs i get 60 and some of those I really like, I just added them in case I had to make up the numbers

Ok 'We Are The World' will probably be top 20 but i am going to go through them again, I need more songs, worse songs! You can't know who Roland Rat is, he is a puppet kids tv character. He was probably as big as Kermit for a few years in the UK.

Not even sure he was purely for kids either, he just acted like a real person. It seems he stuck around much longer than I knew. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roland_Rat

I need more songs, worse songs! That's why I didn't compile worst lists for 70s and 80s. It's almost impossible to find even 20 hit songs in UK per year, which I strongly dislike.

Sal Solo is not a new act, he was lead singer of Classix Nouveau. Ant and the Frog Chorus simply do not belong on any list of bad songs.
And the Malcolm McLaren and Smiley Culture tracks are absolute genius.

Compared to most of the list he was , he was a change from Cliff, Shaky, Lionel etc Well thinking I will need to call it my least liked list for 1985 as there are so few bad songs. Most of these even aren’t bad songs, they are to me the worst hits in that I think 95% of other hits are better. Your list would be more entertaining and divise I think as I’d be surprised if you like 50% of the music in the charts, you’d be including Hall & Oates for a start judging by your recent TOTP comments

Sal Solo is a brave track musically & spiritually that does not quite work.
Adam Ant - Apollo 9 = Produced by Tony Visconti it definitely had that Marc Bolan/David Bowie glam rock feel to it which Adam was looking for, and was a major upturn from his previous 1983 Strip solo album material. It is certainly better than everything on David Bowie's terrible Tonight album.
We All Stand Together = The sole purpose was for Paul McCartney to come up with a semi classical children's song for his animation short to the Rupert The Bear film. Quite frankly he executed it brilliantly. Hence it does not deserve to be on this list, because it achieves its aim as well as future "Worst Song" contenders Spitting Image - The Chicken Song; Mr Blobby - Mr Blobby who similarly hit the bullseye with what they were trying to achieve.
There was one obvious Paul McCatney contender starring you in the face which you've missed from this year. Probably, because it has been rightfully forgotten about. But at the time this 1984 single was a Double A-side. The much remembered elegiac power ballad, with a stunning Dave Gilmour guitar solo on one side; and this Dad at the disco version on the other side which got playlisted on Radio 1 at the time (Radio 2 played the ballad version); and was the version of the single which appeared on Now 4 on the other.
Malcolm McLaren = A wonderful merger of opera with electronica. The producer of the single, Stephen Hague, became much sought after following his work with McLaren on the LP Fans. Indeed, Neil Tennant chose it as his favourite song of the 1980s on Gary Davies Sound Of The 80s Radio 2 show.
Smiley Culture = A pioneering record with his toasting talking rap style & witty social commentary the way black people are unfairly treated by the police. You can trace Dizzee Rascal; & Stormzy back to Smiley Culture's influence.

Ironically, wasn't Smiley Culture shot dead by a police officer?

I was on the fence with 'No More Lonely Nights' and no I didnt know there was two versions and yes that one is well dodgy. But as I have to say if I excluded any of those i would have added these and maybe you are right but they are so dull noone would have cared apart from Shaky & Bonnie. A song has to give me a feeling one way or the other, if its just there its not going to be that high. And yeh all those songs do what they are supposed to do but doesnt mean I want to hear them then or today or both. You could say the same for Shakatak! I did say I like Smiley Culture at the time as you said he was a breath of fresh air and he was always a great guest on Saturday morning shows. 51 Boys Do Fall In Love - Robin Gibb 52 If Ever You're in My Arms Again - Peabo Bryson 53 A Night in New York - Remastered - Elbow Bones & The Racketeers - Kid Creole 54 A Rockin' Good Way (to Mess Around and Fall in Love) - Shakin' Stevens & Bonnie Tyler 55 Street Dance - Original Version 1984 - Break Machine But that woudl just have been boring

Now 1985 set to be the most controversial yet. I managed to get a list of 63 but everything below 43 I pretty much like 5/10 minimum. Even when we get to 37 we are still in 4/10 territory.
Everything above 14 I hate but they are nearly all novelty or football records and a couple of obvious choices. So yes this is going to be rough i'm sorry. But 1986 will be so much better and more fun and no I dont think 'Chicken Song' will be in the top 50.
So the unlucky first 10 are these, this took me an extra day to compile so please try not to be too mean.
50 Who's Holding Donna Now? - DeBarge 49 Ooh Ooh Song - Pat Benatar 48 That's What Friends Are For (with Elton John, Gladys Knight & Stevie Wonder) - Dionne Warwick, Elton John, Gladys Knight, Stevie Wonder 47 Bring It Down - Redskins 46 Say Yeah - The Limit 45 Radioactive - The Firm 44 A Good Heart - Feargal Sharkey 43 Dancin' in the Key of Life - Steve Arrington 42 Free Yourself - 7" Version - The Untouchable 41 Long Time - Arrow
Yeh it was so hard I even included my favourite female singer of all time but to be fair, the 'Ooh Ooh Ooh Song' isnt very good. I wonder how it would have went done in HF
Pat Benatar - Ooh Ooh Song
