Now let's talk about popular songs, which the majority dislike/hate now, but you don't care and love it.
I will like to start with three hits from the past. All became # 1s in my retro charts and "Save Your Love" is my favourite song from 1982 year.
Debby Boone - You Light Up My Life Renee and Renato - Save Your Love Peters and Lee - Welcome Home

Stevie Wonder - I just called to say I love you.
I just think that sometimes the simplest songs are as good as the most experimental ones

When Simple Minds got knocked out of Haven Factor, I remember saying I'd been waiting to hear 'Belfast Child' and I'm pretty sure everyone who replied to that said they hated it I love it!

Starship - We Built This City: always seems to come up on hate lists, mainly generated from the USA where it got to number one.
Some novelty hits:
Agadoo and the Birdie Song aren't as bad as people make out, both fun novelty songs. The only issue with the Birdie Song is that it is too repetitive. Shaddap You Face reached my top 30 whilst The Smurf Song reached my top 20. My Ding-A-Ling also reached around #30 in my chart and Long Haired Lover From Liverpool #11. So none of them massive hits in my chart but they all charted.
I could add football-club songs: surely they only chart because a few fans who support the team go out and buy them? Well most of them are crap but two that did well in my chart are Blue Is The Colour (Chelsea) (#4, 1972) and Ossie's Dream - Spurs Are On Their Way To Wembley (Tottenham / Chas & Dave) (#6, 1981).

"Sussudio", Phil Collins (1985)
Critic Michael Saunders in the Sun-Sentinel named "Sussudio" as the worst song of the rock era, describing it as "insipid" and "indefensibly stupid".[85] Guardian journalist Tom Service wrote: "'Sussudio' brings me out in a cold sweat… there's no colder or more superficial sound in popular music." Michael Musto in The Village Voice listed it as the second worst song ever and said that it "could have been the theme song for the Third Reich, it was that insidious and evil". Creative Loafing Charlotte writer Matt Brunson called it the worst song of the 1980s The track has also been criticized for sounding too similar to Prince's "1999"; Mark Caro in the Chicago Tribune labelled it a "ripoff".

I like most of the songs already mentioned.
I think most music has got something about it to like, it's just overplay that makes some things irritating.
Even 'The Cheeky song' is a fun pop song.

yes 100% Starship - We Built This City
But the big difference was, we didnt hear it played hundreds of times a week like they did in the US, and then for many years later. Radio 1 hardly played it outwith the top 40. It was a treat if you heard it on the radio at all in 1985/1986. It was a hit thanks to Jonathan King/Casey Kasem not Uk radio. Thats why we look at it a bit different in the UK.

I love 'We Built This City' but had never considered it particularly hated!

Goombay Dance Band - Seven Tears.
I'll never understand why that is so hated. I just think it's a fantastic pop song, in the vein of Boney M. I even love the follow-up, Sun Of Jamaica!

I love 'We Built This City' but had never considered it particularly hated! "We Built This City", Starship (1985) This single from the group's album Knee Deep in the Hoopla is often cited as the worst song of all time. It was ranked number one on Blender magazine's list of the worst songs of all time and "The 10 Worst Songs of the 1980s" in Rolling Stone. It was called the worst song of all time by GQ and The A.V. Club, and named one of the worst songs of all time in a readers' poll in New York Post. It has been disowned by the group's co-lead singer Grace Slick Ha i love it too, pure 80s cheese

The joke is getting a little old, and their songs started giving me creepy incest vibes when they are all about getting freaky, touching bums and how two of them are better than one because you can have twice as much fun, they are sisters! and must be 40 by now

'We all stand together' is brilliant.
I would also add the Toy Dolls 'Nellie the elephant' and the Firm's 'Star Trekkin' to my list of great novelty songs!

'We all stand together' is brilliant. Add to me to the list of We All Stand Together fans. I like it more than all his discography put together.
