14(23) LFO - LFO
Another self-titled house/rave track that would peak at #12, and another that I am finding it easier to get into now than I probably did at the time. It really does depend what mood I'm in though to be honest, and I'm quite enjoying the escapism feel to it at the moment. I admit I would struggle to cope with a whole evening of this, but as a four minute single it's just fine.

13(16) River City People - Carry The Blame/California Dreamin'
OMG now we are F***ing talking!! The River City People were an absolutely amazing band who released one of the best debut albums ever made IMO. Siobhan Maher's vocals never fail to get right under my skin and touch my soul - not least on the anti-abortion song 'Carry The Blame', which deserves to be much more well-known. Their cover of the Mamas & the Papas classic 'California Dreamin'' is up there with the original in my book, and one of the most perfect covers of the 90s. Altogether probably putting it into my top 3 double A-sides of all-time.

17(--) New Kids On The Block - Tonight
Hehe this is by far my favourite New Kids On The Block song, even though the buying public weren't as quick to catch on as it took another four weeks to reach its peak of #3. Their reign was quite short-lived compared to a lot of boybands, as they broke into the Uk charts late in 1989 and were pretty much over a mere two years later. This one is catchy as hell though!
The only NKOTB song I liked. Possibly Games. Funnily enough we really like Jon Knights real estate renovation programs and was just watching it earlier this evening.

11(--) Prince - Thieves In The Temple
Little-known singer Prince had had the odd hit in the 80s, but this lead single from his soundtrack album 'Graffiti Bridge' was his first 90s offering - reaching its peak of #7 the following week. It was a different sound from anything he'd done before, and was quite funky with plenty of sound effects going on! I'd say it's one of his more unerrated singles, because I think it's rather brilliant and different.

10(07) Roxette - It Must Have Been Love
What can I possibly say about this song? As soon as the opening bars kick in I know it's one of my favourite power ballads of all-time - and I do love a great power ballad. Marie Fredriksson's voice combined with Per Gessle's genius knack of writing a killer melody, made for one of the greatest musical combinations ever. I never, ever, ever tire of hearing this.

09(09) Technotronic Featuring Ya Kid K - Rockin' Over The Beat
From the makers of 'Pump Up The Jam', this is one you don't hear too much these days. The fourth single from their debut album, this followed other chart smashes 'Get Up (Before The Night Is Over)' and 'This Beat Is Technotronic' into the top twenty, and it was only the latter that didn't make the top ten. I think it's pretty great - not breaking any new ground at all, but very appealing nonetheless.

08(10) The Soup Dragons Featuring Junior Reid - I'm Free
There really were some great songs released around this time! This indie classic is no exception, and became the Soup Dragons biggest hit by a mile, reaching a high of #5 (with the help of dancehall singer Junior Reid, who's vocals fit the song perfectly, making it a prime candidate for indie discos for all-time). I'm not even sure I've ever heard the Rolling Stones' original, so maybe I should check that one out too!

07(03) Craig McLachlan & Check 1-2 - Mona
Another cover now, this was a 1957 Bo Diddley B-side that was remade by the latest Neighbours star who had decided to follow Kylie, Jason and er, Stefan into the charts. We've already heard the next single 'Amanda', and there's nothing wrong with this either, I loved it at the time and it hasn't aged as bad as you might think now either.

06(08) Blue Pearl - Naked In The Rain
Definitely one of the best dance hits of the summer, this barely sounds like it's aged a day. I could imagine it still filling club dancefloors today if played. The lead singer was Durga McBroom, and her power house vocals sound not a million miles away from Heather Small's. Just great.
